WRITING INTRODUCTION

NAMA : Arum Khoiriyah

NPM : 201240001 TBI 5A

In learning English, the learners are expected to be able to master four language skills; they are
listening, speaking, reading, and writing. As one of the language skills, writing has important role for its
significance in learner's actual life. In real life (as opposed to school) they will be able to send a letter to
anywhere, and it makes them easier to express or share their ideas to anyone. Moreover, in their
school, writing skill will help them to express their ideas in answering the essay and accomplishing their
assignment from their teacher. Therefore, the ability to write in any form will give many advantages in
students' life as gaining success in their study at school.

English is an international language and many people are interested in learning the language.
Not only because English can simplify work but English is also the language most widely used throughout
the world.

English has four important skills. They are writing, speaking, listening and reading. In this
research, just only foccus in writing skills. Due to the fact that writing English for Indonesian learner is
difficult since English is different from Indonesian structure. Therefore, learning English is different from.
learning Indonesian language. Thus, the students who learn English may produce many errors in their
writing. Some of them are confused in using it in their writing, for example, "Jacket black" it should be
"Black jacket". This error happens because the students translate Indonesian language to English
directly. In other words, the students is influenced by Indonesian students thinking. Another error
example produced by students is in spelling. For example, most of them write "Cheks" the right one is
"Checks". These are some example of students' writing errors in learning a foreign language. English.
That is why most of students prefer to learn speaking to writing. The ability to write is more difficult
than the ability to speak, to read, or to understand the language.

Some problems that happen in students' English writing are caused by differences in English and
Indonesian structure and also they do not understand how to make a good writing.

In this research, the researchers will only focus on writing because by writing, students can get
many benefits. According to Graham, Haris and Hebert (2011) good writing is no longer just an
alternative for young people, it is essential. An incapability to effectively use writing to bring thoughts
and ideas prevents many American students from completing High Schools obtaining a post-secondary
degree, obtaining a job that will pay a residing wage, and participating fully in neighborhood and civic
life. In writing there are 4 errors types, spelling error, grammar error, punctuation error and usage
error this classification is according to Harry (1994). These errors are often found in students at
Vocational High School.

According to Ernawati, Purnomo and Suryani (2019) english is known as one of International
language in the word. It is as a tool or an aid to communicate with other people from other countries.
Besides, it additionally used as one of the formal language in United Nation. From the fact, we can
imagine how large the had an impact on of English language in contemporary global situation. In
Indonesia, foreign languange is the most important one. The government absolutely realizes with this
situation. Therefore, they decide English language as a compulsory subject to learn in formal school. The
higher the grade of education, the more difficult and complicated and the lessons are. Each grade has
different types of text to learn. One of them is descriptive text. Descriptive text is type of text used by a
speaker or writer to describe particular thing, object, place or event. It is made clearly and in detail,
making the reader feel what is being expressed in a descriptive text. According to Jackson and Stockwell
(2011) descriptive functions to explain what something is like, to give its dimensions, its layout, its
characteristics features, its uses, and so on.

In previous reseach Misla Nadya, Kismullah Abdul Muthalib (2021) about Error analysis of the
students’ English written descriptive text that found, The written test shows the percentage of writing
errors, including omission errors, which is 58.38%, misformation errors with a total of 16.48%,
misordering error 13.89%, and addition of 11.26%. and Kartika Ketut Yani Universitas Pendidikan
Ganesha (2021) about STUDENTS’ ERROR IN WRITING DESCRIPTIVE TEXT IN THE JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL
VIEWED FROM ITS INDICATORS that found, This study found that students made mistakes in describing
people, animals, and procedures in the title, main sentence, significant sentence development, sentence
structure, word choice, grammar, and mechanics. Meanwhile, the highest proportion of students'
mistakes in writing is the students' indifference to their writing.

Meanwhile, in the research I did on the writings of the 3rd semester English study program
students at IAIMNU metro Lampung Found the most errors in omission, while addition and selection
only a few.
