Pupils: Let’s go!
(Teacher lists their given sentences)

Pupils: It’s a monkey!

Pupils: Yes, teacher Ann.

Pupils: Yes, teacher!

Pupils: There’s a girl.

Pupils: I think she is
happy.

Pupils: FACT or OPINION

Wow, brilliant. Your sentences have something to do with

our new lesson. Later we will find out if your sentences
are FACT or OPINION.

Yes, today we are going to learn about FACT or Opinion.

Let’s say it again. FACT or OPINION.

D. Lesson Proper
In this lesson, we are going to:

a. Distinguish an information as fact or opinion.

b. Pay attention to determine whether the detail is fact
or opinion.
c. Group together information that are facts and
opinions.

What is FACT?
 something that is always TRUE
 it can be proven
Example: (Pupils pay attention)

Pupils: YES, it is.

Pupils: YES, it’s in the picture.

Pupils: Okay.

1. The girl has six balloons.

 Is it true? YES, it is.
 Can we prove it? YES, by counting the balloons.
So, this is FACT.

Pupils: YES, it is.

2. She is wearing a party hat. Pupils: YES, it’s in the picture.
 Is it true?
 Can we prove it?

All right, if we can answer YES to these questions

 Is it true?
 Can we prove it?

Then, it is FACT. Okay?

One more, example.

(Pupils pay attention)
(Pupils pay attention)

3. She has a gift tied with red ribbon.

 Is it true?
(Pupils pay attention)
 Can we prove it?

VERY GOOD. But, how about OPINION?

OPINION
 is what you THINK or FEEL
 it’s NOT always true
 it CANNOT be proven

Sometimes, there are CLUE WORDS that will help you

identify OPINION like:
 I think
 I feel Pupils: No.
 I believe Pupils: Maybe.
 probably Pupils: No, we can’t.
 seems  Pupils: OPINION.
Example:

Pupils: Okay.
Pupils: FACT

Pupils: OPINION

1. I think she is the most beautiful birthday girl in the

city.
 Is it true?
Maybe for you, but somebody might say “No, she’s
not the most beautiful girl, it’s my sister.”

 Can we prove it?

No, we can’t. Because it’s just an OPINION.

And look, it has the CLUE WORD: “I think”

So, this is OPINION.

Pupils: Yes, teacher!

(Pupils follow instruction)

2. She looks amazing with her dress.
(Pupils follow instruction)
Does it have the CLUE WORDS?
Is it true?
Can we prove it?
So, what is it, FACT or OPINION?

All right, if we can answer NO/ MAYBE to these

questions  (Pupils follow instruction)
 Is it true?
 Can we prove it?

Then, it is OPINION.

If you see the CLUE WORDS in the sentence, then it is

(Pupils follow instruction)
OPINION. Okay?

Now,

If your answer to the questions are both YES, is it FACT

or Opinion? (Pupils follow instruction)
If your answer to the questions are No/ Maybe is it FACT
or Opinion? Pupil: Yeheeeey!

VERY GOOD!

E. Application (Pupils are thinking)

Why do you think, it’s important to analyze information as

fact or opinion?
