CHAPTER I

INTRODUCTION

Background of the Study

You must read the instructions carefully before you start writing the background

of the study. Instructions: Use “TIMES NEW ROMAN” as font style, font size of

“12”, double space, and with a margin of “1.5” from left side and “1” to right, top, and

bottom. The background of the study is composed of at least a minimum of 3,000 and a

maximum of 5,000 words. According to Labay (n.d.), the background of the study

must have the following ideas:

- General introduction of the research work, indicating why it is considered and

important. This may appear in the first or three lines or statement of the

paragraph. General scenarios related to the study in a worldwide scene, then

national, provincial, and finally local (2 or 3 sentences) – Introduce the

topic.

- General relevant literature to provide a progression of studies and theories

related to the topic or problem. The literature review need not be exhaustive

but should reflect important and recent developments. Indicate also the gaps

about the studies made – what has been done and what has to be done (4 or

more sentences about directly related literature) – Relate to current

knowledge.
- Provide a rationale for your study and its overall design. Why I am doing this

study the way I like it? Why this study a good next step in the process of

understanding the topic at hand? – Introduce your work.

- State predictions based on literature review and your thinking. Tie the ideas

you have presented, by summarizing, interpreting or judging the cited facts.

What results do I expect based on the literature cited and my thinking? –

Introduce your work.

- Finally, introduce your work as the concluding statement by giving the

purpose or objectives of the study – State research objectives (Labay, n.d.).

Statement of the Problems (At least 3 Statement of the Problems)

This study will try to answer the following sub-problems:

1. What are the profiles of the respondents, in terms of:

a. Age?

b. Sex?

c. Highest Educational Attainment?

d. Length of Service as Police Investigator?

e. Training and Seminar Attended, and

f. Frequency of Testifying at the RTC?

2. What are the difficulties experienced by the Police Investigators in testifying

before the Regional Trial Court?


3. Is there a significant difference between the profiles of the respondents and

problems experienced by the police investigators in testifying before the Regional

Trial Court?

4. What are the recommendations of the Police Investigators to address the

difficulties encountered in testifying before the RTC?

Hypothesis (at least one hypothesis)

Ho: There is a significant difference between the profiles of the respondents and

problems experienced by the police investigators in testifying before the Regional Trial

Court?
