From the novel “The Lost Kiss” by Jonace Manyasa, is a novel with full of various 3events

attached to love affairs, such as betrayal, honest, disappointment which are among events in this
novel. But also these events leads to tragically end of a novel since Tobias is neither in love with
Jessica or Linda and nor Maryam, also Frank lost kiss from Jessica and fall to Cynthia a banker.
Scholars depict features of static character which readers use to interpret the literary texts, they
read as follows;

Un-changeability of static characters; it is scholarly discussed that this static character tend to
remain the same and unchanging by the end of the story Clause (2006). The character maintain is
behavior, feelings and certain perspectives the same till story ends. From the novel “The Lost
Kiss” by Jonace Manyase rises static character that seems to carry un-changeability. Jessica and
Maryam, Jonace rises Jessica as unchanging character since this character believes in love with
freedom and wants not to live as ghosts, in page 13 the novelist Jonace depicts as life preferences
by Jessica to her love, the author says;

“…Jessica is a women who wants to party..”

Since her in need of being freed in her relationship, things comes difficult in her relationship
with Frank. Also actions of Tobias to come in love with Maryam does not discourage aspiration
and feeling of Jessica to love to Tobias, also Jessica want the same kind of relationship with
Frank, love with freedom it is seen in page 5 but also writer Jonace in his “The Lost Kiss” rises
another character Maryam, as she is a women with faith and beliefs in true love that makes thus
character unchanging till the end of the story. In page 39 the novelist shows Maryam whe she
says;

“… you witch stop your affair with my husband

Stop seeing him”

This shows how she loves Tobias, her children father, but in page 40 Maryam says

“….I don’t want to see you near my husband..”

As she emphasis to Jessica to stop following Tobias, but despite all these Maryam forgives
Tobias at the end of the story and says she never stopped loving her husband. The existence of
these two kind of women static in respective perspectives depict women commitment in
relationship for true love and behavalance.

Secondly, Claude (2016) static character as an obstacle to other character. An obstacle is the
hindrance, obstruction, impediment, difficulty, check, barrier, stumbling-block and that must be
removed. Static characters appears as an obstacle when act against other characters mainly
against protagonistic character. Also this obstacles may be unseen force acting against the other
fellow characters. By refering the literary work a novel “The Lost Kiss” by Jonace Manyasa rises
static characters that fall to this kind of feature. He rises Frank, Jessica and Maryam. The author
explain frank to how appears as an obstacle frank becomes an obstacle to Jessica’s life style
because Jessica prefers living life and relationship with freedom since she always wants to party,
several outgoings and wearing short clothes which Frank is against or not have interests with
these all them appears as an obstacle to Jessica we see it in page 13 and page 14. Also Jessica is
an obstacle to herself, in a way that after herself as an obstacle whom she fails to copy with life
existing in her relationship with Frank, it expected she should live as her second husband wants,
but fails to adopt life style to new relationship hence she decided to remarry former husband
Tobias it is seen in page 7 an 9 when both agree to love each other saying;

“… I love you” speak in turn, Jessica and Tobias again Jessica refuses her father’s advice to not
remarry Tobias and leave Frank since Tobias have caused pain to Jessica family. It is seen in
page 32-33 when we see Jessica and her father conversation. The novelist Jonace rises Maryam
as an static character but with an obstacle. Maryam appeared an obstacle to Jessica’s relationship
with Tobias. Jessica wants to remarry Tobias but Tobias has married Maryam and having
children with her. Thus Maryam rises as an obstacle when Jessica wants to remarry Tobias but
Maryam is unwilling with this situation so, ,Maryam wants to stop Jessica quickly we see in page
39 Maryam warns Jessica by saying

“… you witch dtop your affairs with my husband, stop seeing him….”

Maryam tells Jessica angrly, so Jessica view this as a challenge and obstacle to her love with
Tobias and she answered by counting Maryam in page 41 by saying

:…Tobias, tell your wife, Maryam to stop meddling in other people’s business..”
Jessica seems to caution Maryam her obstacle. Hence the existence of this situation as seen in a
novel rises conscious and awareness that society have women committed to love their lovers
despite problems they encounter.

Thirdly, (Fleming 2018), static character acts as a foil to dynamic character. Foil is anything that
acts by contrast to emphasize the characteristics of something. Static character acts as a foil since
protest or do not contrast to other fellow character mainly dynamic character. A dynamic
character (Fleming, 2018) is a character who does change and grow as the story unfolds, and
respond to event and experience changes and attitude or outlook. The character might go through
transformation during the course of the storyline and grow as a result of actions that takes place.
By referring to a novel The lost kiss by Jonace Manyase rises static characters with foil features,
he rises Frank to Tobias and Maryam to Jessica. Starting from Frank to Tobias foilism, the writer
shows Frank comforting Tobias at Jessica’s work place, demand Tobias to stop affair with his
wife Jessica. Tobias unwilling to stop Jessica then conflict grows and they find fighting. Author
shows Frank saying at page 48 “I swear to god if you don’t get out of my way right now, I will
break your face”. So they get confronting each other. Also the writer Jonace rises Maryam as foil
to Jessica since she demands Jessica to stay aside with her husband Tobias. Maryam is saying at
page 39 “you witch stop. Stop your affair with my husband stop seeing him” also she still warn
at page 40 “I don’t want you anywhere near my husband” this shows how Mary is unwilling and
contrary to Jessica attack to her love, this rises theme of awareness and responsibility
