Title: Investigation Practical

Problem Statement:
Athletes tend to douse themselves with ice water in order to cool themselves. Investigate whether
it is the best method of using water to do so.

Hypothesis:
Athletes douse themselves in cold water for it helps them recover faster after exercise by
reducing temperature.
Apparatus:
- Athletes
- Ice
- Water
- Bath tub
- Thermometer
- Timer
Method:
1. Fill a bath tub with ice and water.
2. Use a thermometer to test the water to make sure it was at a correct temperature.
3. Test athletes body temperature before they start to train.
4. Athletes should train for at least 45 minutes.
5. After the athletes train, check their body temperature.
6. Athletes should enter into the ice bath for 10-15 minutes.
7. After the time has passed, check the athlete’s body temperature.
Expected Results:
Table showing the body temperature of athletes before and after an ice bath.
Athlete 1 Athlete 2 Athlete 3

Initial Temperature

Temperature after
training
Temperature after
ice bath
It is expected that the athlete’s temperature would decrease and be within the range for
performance.
Treatment of Result:
It is expected that the temperature of the athletes will decrease. Hence, the hypothesis will be
accepted.
Precaution and Limitations:
- Temperature is out of range
- Most of the ice melted
- Do not go in warm water coming out of the ice bath
- Time is exceeded
