Ancient Israel

Subject: World History Date: 10/11/22

Unit: Ancient Israel Lesson: Israelite Kingdom

Standards: 6.3 Students analyze the geographic, political, economic, religious, and social
structures of the Ancient Hebrews.
6.4 Discuss the locations of the settlements and movements of Hebrew peoples, including
the Exodus and their movement to and from Egypt, and outline the significance of the
Exodus to the Jewish and other people.

Materials Needed: Pencil, Paper, Learning Objectives: Students will


Chromebook, and Bible. recognize the role of Israelite kings played
in the development of ancient Israel.

Structure: Students will read 1 Kings 6 and based on the information provided, they will
sketch a drawing of the Temple of Solomon on their whiteboards. Students will then bring
up their picture to the document scanner and explain what they drew and where from the
passage they derived it from. When we are finished students will answer the following
question, "Why do you think the Temple of Solomon was important for the ancient
Israelites?" The purpose of this question is to have students identify how interconnected
Israel was with their faith.

Students will then engage with a presentation where they are expected to share their
thoughts and opinions. This serves as a check for understanding and ensures that students
are actively participating in the presentation.

When the lesson is over, students will answer a Google Form as a check for understanding
and a formative assessment to determine if students took sufficient notes.

Accommodations: My one EL student has access to a Chinese/ English so she can engage
with 1 Kings 6. She also has the notes translated into Chinese so she can follow along. Key
vocabulary terms are also in red so students can more easily identify those terms. Along
with this, my Google Slides are also shared to Google Classroom.
