1 Number theory
1. Prove that for all integers n, n2 + 14n + 5 is not divisible by 11.

2. (Sophie Germain Identity) Prove that 202522 + 43333 is not a prime

number.

3. Find all positive integers n for which the number obtained by erasing
the last digit is a divisor of n.

4. Find the greatest power of 5 that divides 1154!.

5. Find all positive integers n such that 3n−1 + 5n−1 divides 3n + 5n .

6. Prove by induction there are infinitely many numbers not containing

the digit 0, that are divisible by the sum of their digits.

7. Prove by induction that for all integers n ≥ 3, there exist odd positive
integers x,y, such that 7x2 + y 2 = 2n .

8. (bonus) Prove that the given diophantine equation 1001x + 264y = 3

has no solution in integers.

2 Combinatorics
1. Show that in any group of n people, there are two who have an identical
number of friends within the group.

2. Six distinct positive integers are randomly chosen between 1 and 2006,
inclusive. What the probability that some pair of these integers has a
difference that is a multiple 5?

3. Prove that having 100 whole numbers, one can choose 15 of them so
that the difference of any two is divisible by 7.

4. Every point in a plane is either red, green, or blue. Prove that there
exists a rectangle in the plane such that all of its vertices are the same
color.

5. A graph contains 21 edges and 3 vertices of degree 4, and all the other
vertices of degree 2, find the total no. of vertices.

6. In a room of 23 people, can everyone shake hands with 9 others?

7. Prove that any undirected graph has even number of odd degree ver-
tices.

8. Determine if a simple graph with degrees of the vertices {1, 1, 1, 1, 13, 5, 6, 8, 9, 10}
exist.
