• Asking politely
• Sometimes you need to ask to do something or ask someone to do something.
• You can use Do you mind if + subject + verb . . . ? to ask permission to do something:
• Do you mind if I look around? ( = Can I look around?)
• You can use Would you mind + verb + -ing . . . ? to ask someone to do something:
• Would you mind helping me in the kitchen? ( = Can you help me?)

• Sometimes you want to give the order of events and actions – what you do first, second, third,
• etc.
• You can use these words for a sequence of events:
• first next (and) then
• They usually help to give the order of more than two events:
• First, I change my clothes. Next, I turn on some music, and then I cook dinner.
• You can use these words before a noun:
• before after during
