Acute toxicity
No LD50 data available for this product.
For the constituent Ferric Chloride:
LD50 Oral - rat - 450 mg/kg

Irritation and corrosion

Skin - rabbit - Skin irritation
Eyes - rabbit - Severe eye irritation

Route of exposure
Skin Contact: Causes skin irritation.
Skin Absorption: May be harmful if absorbed through the skin.

Signs and symptoms of exposure

To the best of our knowledge, the chemical, physical, and toxicological properties have
not been thoroughly investigated. Overdose of iron compounds may have a corrosive
effect on the gastrointestinal mucosa and be followed by necrosis, perforation, and
stricture formation. Several hours may elapse before symptoms that can include
epigastric pain, diarrhea, vomiting, nausea, and hematemesis occur. After apparent
recovery a person may experience metabolic acidosis, convulsions, and coma hours or
days later. Further complications may develop leading to acute liver necrosis that can
result in death due to hepatic coma. Inhalation may result in spasm, inflammation and
edema of the larynxand bronchi, chemical pneumonitis, andulmonary edema.

4. FIRST-AID MEASURES
Eyes
Burns, irritation. Corrosive to eye tissue and may cause severe damage and blindness.
Rinse with water for at least 30 minutes, with eyelids open. Seek medical attention.

Skin
Corrosive and may cause severe burns. Prolonged and repeated exposure to dilute
solutions often causes irritation, redness, pain, drying and cracking of the skin and skin
sensitization. Toxic effects may be delayed. Rinse with plenty of soap and water for at least
10 minutes, wash contaminated clothing before re-use. Seek medical attention if symptoms
persist. If mixed with acid or heated to >40 degree C, sodium hypochlorite solutions may
liberate chlorine gas. This gas is very irritating and may cause severe lung damage.

Ingestion
Poisonous. Causes burns, abdominal cramps, nausea, vomiting, lowered blood pressure,
diarrhea and shock. Coma, shock and death may occur. If patient is conscious, rinse mouth
with water, do not induce vomiting. If vomiting occurs take steps to prevent aspiration of
liquid. Seek medical attention.

Inhalation
Poisonous vapour. Corrosive to respiratory passages. Increasing doses may cause
irritation of mouth, nose and throat. Repeated or prolonged exposure can cause coughing,
runny nose, bronchopneumonia, headaches, breathing difficulty, pulmonary edema and
lung injury. Remove patient to fresh air, rest and keep warm. If not breathing, give artificial
respiration. If breathing is difficult, give oxygen. Seek medical attention if symptoms are
severe.

5. FIRE FIGHTING MEASURES

Suitable extinguishing media
Use water spray, alcohol-resistant foam, dry chemical or carbon dioxide.

Name of Product: Sucrose Granules Version: 1.12 Updated: 26/032019 Created by: LK 3
9. HANDLING AND STORAGE
Handling
Material can ferment if excessive moisture contamination is allowed. Fermentation can
yield carbon dioxide with possible traces of ethanol or volatile fatty acids (e.g. acetic,
propionic, lactic, or butyric) and if exposed to a spark or flame may result in an explosion.
These conditions should be avoided. If maintenance of tank requires entry by personnel,
confined space precautions should be complied with. Insufficient oxygen may be present in
vessels containing the product due to the generation of carbon monoxide during
fermentation.

Storage
This product should be stored in its factory packaging in a dry area. Storage above 40°C
can lead to spontaneous decomposition.

10. EXPOSURE CONTROLS/ PPE

Engineering controls Use adequate ventilation.
Eye Protection Use chemical splash goggles.
Skin Protection Use impermeable gloves. Wear protective gloves made of the following
materials – rubber.
Other Protective Equipment A safety shower and eye wash fountain should be readily
available.
