FEMALE ILLUSTRATION AND OPRESSION TROUGH “STORY OF AN

HOUR”

Kate Chopin illustrates the theme of female oppression trough her main character in
“Story of an hour”. She develops this character in the figure of a married and unsatisfied
woman. But is Kate Chopin really portraying her female character as a victim of
society? The study of symbolism, the history of the female figure in society and the
analysis of characters and their relationships and the real meaning of the story will lead
us to discover the actual intention of the author in the story.
