The History of

the blues

Blues is an Afro-American folk music originally

created by slaves working at rice, sugar, cotton, and
tobacco plantations. It was created by the Afro-
Americans dancing, banging on pots, and using
other kitchen- appliances to create a slight joy and
happiness in their horrible lives but eventually the
slave masters found out and some brought them
proper instruments so they would play for them. It
eventually became one of the most popular genres of
music in the 1960’s.Blues songs are lyrical not
narrative unlike some kinds of music back in the
1960’s. The singers express their feelings rather than
telling a story with the words and rhythm. The
emotions most expressed in these types of music are
sadness and fear.
