Model: 731 Series Ventilators

Item: Change Notice – Obsolete Service Kits
Released to: Authorized Impact Service Centers, DoD Medical Maintenance
Facilities
Date: Aug 2014
NOTICE: There has been a design change in Impact’s 731 Series Ventilators. The user interface
has been changed from a Membrane Panel(MP) to Button Board(BB). The Button Board
components (including knobs and bezels) are not interchangeable with the older Membrane
Panel components. The new Button Board can be easily identified (see below). The change is
effective immediately for EMV+, Eagle II and AEV models. This change is not yet in effect for
731s sold to the military or customers considered to require airworthiness(AWR). Impact will
maintain a limited number of Membrane Panel associated kits to be used ONLY for military
vents. This change affects the availability of several service kits.

How to identify a Button Board for the 731 Series Ventilator

POWER OFF/ON switch and

ROTARY ENCODER can be
seen protruding through the case
in Button Board vents.
Below is a list of Membrane Panel kits affected and their replacement numbers for commercial
ventilators. If the ventilator has been identified as a Membrane Panel vent then use the
replacement kit number(s) listed.

Background: Some RCS users have experienced error messages and symptoms that may indicate
an Oxygen Valve issue. Return all replaced O2 valve to Impact for analysis. Messages and
symptoms include:

Symptoms/Error Message Resolution

Failures in the valve portion of the RCS Check the RCS setup and rerun the test.
Functional Test Check for leaks at the GAS OUTPUT location.
If leaks are found – replace the O2 valve.
“Curve not sufficiently linear” error Repeat the O2 valve calibration. If repeated
message tests fail then replace the O2 valve.

A leaking sound and noticeable flow from Leaks can occur if fine dust and debris
the GAS OUTPUT fitting when oxygen accumulate on the valve seats. Replace the O2
input is pressurized even in the OFF mode valve and Oxygen inlet filter.

Service Code 1174 on the ventilator This code can be a combination of the
hardware associated with the O2 valve and
oxygen flow measurement. Replace the O2
valve.
Note: This may not indicate an O2 valve that
has malfunctioned. The O2 valve may be
suited for another set of hardware components
on another vent.

2.1. Notes, Cautions and Warnings

2.1.1. Note: Refer to TSB#16 to distinguish between a Membrane Panel and
Button Board ventilator and to determine replacement kit number needed. Plastic
case, Membrane Panel and Button Boards are not interchangeable.
2.1.2. CAUTION: Internal components are susceptible to damage from static
discharge. All servicing operations MUST be done in an ESD controlled
environment.
2.1.3. CAUTION: Use only manufacturer supplied parts in the servicing and
maintenance of the ventilator.
2.1.4. WARNING: This device has been classified "life supporting" and "life
sustaining" by the United States Food & Drug Administration. If you have not been
trained and certified by Impact Instrumentation, Inc. in the care and servicing of
this product, DO NOT attempt to service this device. Should factory based
servicing become necessary, or technical assistance is required, please have the
device’s Model and Serial Number available and contact the Impact service team.
All service requests, including requests to schedule service training, may be
addressed to the Technical Services Manager, Impact Instrumentation, Inc., 19

instructions contained in the Service manual 906-0731-04. Refer the Service
Manual for additional Cautions and Warnings. Failure to do so may cause injury to
the service personnel or damage to the device!
2.1.6. WARNING: The SPO2 insulator is a critical component and it’s correct
assembly is required for the safety of both the patient and the operator. Insure
there are no tears or physical damage to the insulator and verify it is installed
correctly before re-assembly.

2.2. Follow the procedures below to disassemble the front case assembly. Kit numbers
available are referenced throughout the procedure. RCS testing MUST be performed
after re-assembly of the ventilator. See RCS manual 906-RCS1-01.
