● The first social media site was Six Degrees, it was created in 1997. It
allowed users to upload a profile and make friends with other users.
● After the invention of blogging in 1999, social media became more and
more popular.
● YouTube came out in 2005, creating an entirely new way for people to
communicate and share with each other across great distances.
● And by 2006, Facebook and Twitter both became available to users from
all over the world.
● Today, there is a big variety of social media sites. This creates an
environment where we can know how other people are without talking
with them. But, is this fact good or bad for our society?

2.Advantages of social media


● It’s a great opportunity for businesses to reach a great number of people that
are interested in their products or services.
● It’s a good way to know about other cultures and build relationships.
● You can educate yourself, social media allows you to find information quickly
and learn about what you really care about.
● Being able to communicate and connect with anyone instantly is another
benefit.

● There have appeared new jobs like content manager, better known as
influencer, or specialist on creation of websites, for example.

● It improves creativity and inspiration.

● Entertainment, what the main reason people use social media, to find a
moment to disconnect from their issues and have fun.
3.Consequences on our health
● The excessive use of social media can create addiction which can also cause:
1. Damage in relationships as people addicted give up going out with their
relatives and friends and they only stay at home using social media.
2. It also creates stress and anxiety due to the fact that they only want to
use their phones.
3. Waste of time and concentration.
4. It generates overweight because of the time users spend sitting or lying
down.
5. Social media develops insecurity in the body as people who show their
body on the internet seem to have a perfect one.
6. And the last problem is the loss of sleep as there can be people who
stay up all night watching videos or playing video games.

● Here are some facts we can take into account to solve the addiction social
media generates:
1. Educate kids to make responsible use of their electronic devices, both
at school and at home.
2. Investing more money on publicity could be another solution including
debates at television to make people be concerned about the dangers
social media can create and the consequences it has if we don’t use it
correctly.
