1. TAKE THE JUSTICE PALACE
the seizure of the Palace of Justice
also known as the Antonio Nariño
Operation for the Rights of Man. On
Wednesday, November 6 at 11:30
a.m. A group of M-19 guerrillas
entered the Palace of Justice, which
is located on the north side of Plaza
de Bolívar.

In total there were 28 hours in
which the M-19, the National
Police and the Army clashed,
in total there were 98 dead,
among which 11 were
magistrates, another 11 were
considered missing; however,
in the year 2000 this figure
decreased to 6.

Of the 94 dead, only 68 bodies were
identified. Gustavo Ramírez, an
occasional visitor, was supposedly
identified, bringing the figure to 69
people, but the corresponding autopsy
protocol with his name was never
referred to, and it is possible that his
body ended up in the common grave of
the Cementerio del Sur, Bogota.

The reason why the M-19 entered
the Palace of Justice is because
they denounced that months before
the army had failed to comply with
the ceasefire, after according to
them, the government of Belisario
Betancur Cuartas had failed to
comply with the Corinto Agreements
signed on December 24. August
1984.

According to data from the
Center for Justice and
International Law (CEJIL),
during the course of the
operation, 12 people were
forcibly disappeared, 4 were
tortured and an assistant
magistrate was disappeared
and later extrajudicially
executed by agents of the
public force.

The M-19 held approximately 350
hostages, including magistrates,
judicial servants, state councillors,
visitors and employees of the
Palace of Justice, after the entry of
this group, the National Police and
the Colombian Army began an
operation to retake the Palace that
was extended until November 7.

Only 54 bodies, of the 68
identified, were handed over
to their relatives, but of the
guerrillas, only the corpse of
Andrés Almarales suffered
this fate, the others went to
the common grave of the
Cemetery of the South,
along with the unidentified
bodies.

Óscar Naranjo was a National Police
Captain at the time the M-19 took over
the Palace of Justice. According to
the Truth Commission, before the
attack, the Military Forces and the Sijín
received anonymous messages
announcing the taking of the Palace
