Course Objectives & Competences to be Acquired

The student shall be able to:
 Design deep foundations such as piles and pile raft foundations.
 Understand & interpret the behavior of expansive soils and be able
to design foundations on expansive soils.
 Understand the environmental issues in geotechnical engineering.

Pile Installation Methods
Load transfer mechanism of piles
Chapter 2 Design of Single Pile &Pile Group
Chapter 3 Analysis and design of sheet pile walls
Chapter 4 Foundation on expansive soils

Evaluation & Grading System

Mid-semester exam ---- 20%
Final exam ------ 50%
Assignment ------- 20%
Attendance ------- 10%
