SPT Automatic Hammer
Easy to Set-Up
The SPT (Standard Penetration Test)
Hammer assembly is stored at the right
of the drill frame and locks in place for
security during transport. To activate,
the Hammer is lifted by either a hydraulic
cylinder or hoist and positioned over the
drill rod. The Hammer case is lowered
into driving position, and can be quickly
aligned over the borehole.
Easy to Operate
The design is simple and the Hammer
can be effectively run by a single
operator. MDI’s SPT Hammers are
fully automatic to the extent that their
performance does not rely on operator-
controlled adjustments or monitoring.
The slug’s weight is hydraulically lifted
by continuous chain; the Hammer case
is able to follow the sampling process
regardless of the material density,
because the case is allowed to ‘float”
in the self-compensating rack or on the
hydraulic cylinder. The striking surface
remains completely enclosed for
greater safety.

Hammer performs the standard
penetration test without imposing any
unnecessary weight or pressure on the
drill string, eliminating the chance of
retroactive load or force against the drill
string each time weight is lifted during
the cycling of the mechanism.

travel controlled to within a half of
an inch (12.7mm), our SPT Automatic
Hammers deliver consistent and reliable
readings. In fact, our Automatic SPT
Hammers meet all of the ‘Standard
Penetration Test’ requirements of

with regulations in every state.
