Genre Analysis on “Ultimate Fighting Championship”

UFC, the “Ultimate Fighting Championship” is one of the most popular, fastest growing

fighting promotions in the entire world. From when the organization was created to today, the

UFC has gained millions upon millions of fans from all over the world. But how did UFC

manage to bring so much attention to this fight card? Thanks to popular social medias like

Facebook and Instagram, UFC has managed to promote fight cards over these past few years.

Because of these social medias, fight promotions are not only simple but extremely effective as

they spread across millions of users using social media. The purpose of this paper is to analyze a

promotional poster of one of the most anticipated fights in UFC.

Before getting into the contributions made by UFC, the people fighting in the main event

alone would bring many eyes to the event as they are very popular fighters known for the many

things that they have accomplished in the octagon. Nate Diaz, one of the few pioneers of the

UFC that has influenced the sport, shaping it into the great sport it is today. Diaz, primarily

known for his foul trash talk, slick Jiu-Jitsu, and the inhumane ability to take powerful strikes to

the temple. Diaz is also known for defeating the great, former undisputed featherweight and

lightweight champion Conor McGregor by submission in a fight where he was actually labeled

as a heavy underdog.

This Saturday night, Diaz will be headlining against Khazmat Chimaev. With a record of

eleven wins and zero losses, Khazmat Chimaev is one of the fastest rising prospects in UFC

history. With only having 5 wins in the UFC, Chimaev has already made his presence known by

demolishing his competition, even beating Gilbert Burns, who at the time of that fight

was ranked #2 in the welterweight division. Today, ranked #4 in the welterweight division,

Chimaev is one of the most talented fighters in UFC history. There are many things on the line as

these two legendary fighters collide. Depending on the outcome of the fight, there is the

possibility that Diaz will retire. Whereas Chimaev could get a shot at the welterweight title

against the champion Leon Edwards, depending on whether or not he can get the victory

Saturday night. Because of the high stakes included in UFC 271, this event alone is one of the

most anticipated events in UFC history.

Putting aside the high stakes, this fight card became as popular as it currently is thanks to

the many promotions that have been produced over these past few months. This includes UFC

Embedded, one of the many channels in the UFC that follows fighters and the emotions and

challenges they are faced with while they prepare themselves for their upcoming fight. fight

montages, which gives viewers the opportunity to see the fighting capability of the fighters

participating in the event. Fight trailers, and one of the most important aspects of all, promotion

posters.

Although very simple and at first glance not very significant, promotion posters are in all

actuality one of, if not the most important element in making a fight card spread across media

and fight fans as it exports multiple important details about the fight card. First and foremost, a

promotion poster is actually used to officiate a fight as it is announced meaning it is the very

essence of how fans discover the event and the important information that the poster holds. There

is an abundant number of major details found in promotion posters. These details include the

people fighting in the main and the co-main event facing off against each other, the weight class

that the fighters will be fighting in, as well as their ranking in the division (if not ranked, the

labeling is “NR”), the location where the fight card will take place, and the date of when the fight

will take place. Because of these significant details, it is believed that promotion posters are the

leading cause towards the large growth of popularity in the making of UFC 271 and the many

events before it, leading to their huge success in pay-per-view and event sales.

UFC has advanced itself into what it is today through its ability of bringing fight fans all

around the world together by creating the most Jaw dropping matches ever made. It is not only

because of the promotions made but also because of the influential fighters involved that make

this card and the many cards in the future so special. UFC will continue to pursue its rise into

becoming the greatest sport in human history through its persistence and service towards fight

fans around the world.
