In this picture, we see a woman named Ophelia lying in a puddle.

There are a
variety of plants which surround of her.

She has many different colors of flowers on her white dress and in her hand. Her
lower body and her waist have already sunk into the water. Colourful flowers
decorate above her dress, wrist, and neck. A cluster of aquatic plants is in the
lower left corner and there are algues in the water under her body. Her hands are
floating on the water powerlessly.

As her body mentioned, there are a few details should be noticed as well. His face
is seen as pale and expressionless. Both of her eyes and mouth are half-opened.
Her shiny red hair spread out freely in the water.

At first glance at the picture, Ophelia's face catches our attention. It is obvious
that she has well-groomed skin and eyebrows. Also, her dress is gorgeous. The
colorful flowers he holds in his hand and the white flowers standing just above it
complete the details in the picture. The woman's face and flowers are in the
foreground. Obviously, these two details are the main motif in the painting.
Because the rest of the painting is made up of less conspicuous plants and dry
grass.

Ophelia's death has been praised as one of the most poetically written death
scenes in literature.

Her well-groomed skin and dress indicate that she is a woman of the upper
classes. The flowers are of great importance as this painting was drawn in the
Victorian era.

Ophelia's pose—her open arms and upwards gaze—also resembles traditional

portrayals of saints or martyrs but has also been interpreted as erotic.
The flowers reflect the Victorian interest in the "language of flowers", according
to which each flower carries a symbolic meaning. The prominent red poppy
represents sleep and death.

The ring of violets around Ophelia’s neck is a symbol of faithfulness but can also
refer to chastity and death.

Her hands are in the pose of submission, accepting of her fate.

Combining his interest in Shakespearean subjects with intense attention to

natural detail, Millais created a powerful and memorable image. The Ophelia
painting is an important work of art in terms of showing the spirit of the period. In
addition, the motifs and symbols used have inspired many movies and books.
