#1. Pick another subject in which you have taken a course and heard mention of scientific
theories. How is political science similar to and different from that subject?
I have chosen the topic of Sociology, from which I may draw comparisons between the
subject disciplines of Sociology and Political Science. Various ideas, including scientific
theories, are researched in sociology and political science. Both academic disciplines are
connected and comparable in that they examine human society and how human relationships
with social structures and politics affect the general functioning of society. Furthermore, both fall
under the heading of human sciences and employ certain overlapping social science ideas.
Sociology and political science are inextricably linked since they deal with human society
and its growth. However, their areas of interest differ. While sociology is concerned with the
growth, structure, and function of human society, political science is focused on the state and its
systems of administration and the scientific examination of political action and conduct. This is
the distinction between politics and sociology and how political changes may affect society.
#2. Think about something in the political world that you would like to better understand.
Try to think about this as a variable with high and low values. This is your dependent
variable at the conceptual level. Now think about what might cause the values of your
variable, also at the conceptual level. Write a paragraph about these two variables and
your theory about why they are causally related to each other.
In the political sphere, I would wish to comprehend better the true meaning and
system in which the political and financial elites work together for mutual advantage. Capitalism,
too, may be thought of as two additional systems comprised of several dependent and
independent factors. Markets and state actors are the two significant variables in the economics
and politics of capitalism. In contrast, political authority is an autonomous variable that can
influence the political economy of capitalism. As a predictor variable, the market competes to
The second variable comprises state agents who implement the laws and regulations,
such as specialist regulators that monitor conduct in specific businesses such as food and
pharmaceuticals or transportation, and individuals who safeguard society resources such as the
physical surroundings or workplace safety. Political power, often with specific tasks such as
executive, legislative, and federal courts, is the dependent variable, which may stand on its own.
The social market economy enables the government to meet fundamental human needs to
increase wealth and quality of life. The government capitalist system is one in which the
government fully regulates some enterprises with whom it has close ties while supporting free
trade with others. The above explanations depict the connection between the three variables.
#3.Identify something in the world that you would like to see happen (normative). What
scientific knowledge (empirical and causal) would help you to pursue this goal?
I believe that the government should have the authority to take the life of its people as
punishment for a law-breaking. To achieve this aim, I would want to employ empirical and
scientific information. Normative theory can help guide empirical research, whereas empirical
research can help normative theory. Increasing the severity of punishment has little impact on
crime prevention. Policies and laws aimed at preventing crime by increasing the magnitude of
penance are ineffective, partly since criminals are ignorant of the punishments for specific

crimes. Everyone who commits a major crime, according to criminal justice theory, deserves
punishment by a court of law. The severity of the penalty should be proportionate to the extent of
#4.The 1992 US presidential election, in which challenger Bill Clinton defeated incumbent
George H. W. Bush, has often been remembered as the “It’s the economy, stupid,” election.
How can we restate the causal statement that embodies this conventional wisdom –
“Clinton beat Bush because the economy had performed poorly” – into a more general
theoretical statement?
donors exert undue influence on the receiving country's governance. The country's frugality is
supported by huge natural capitals, well infrastructures, and high production. It has the second
utmost total-estimated natural resource value, evaluated at US$ 44.98 trillion in 2019; however,
estimates vary. Political economy is concerned with how political affairs influences the economy
in addition to how the economy effects politics. Governments tries to stimulate the frugality
before elections to produce so-called political business cycles, which cause ebbs and flows of
#5.Identify at least two causal claims that have been made in the preceding statement. For
each causal claim, identify which variable is the independent variable and which variable is
the dependent variable. These causal claims should be stated in terms of one of the
following types of phrases in which the first blank should be filled by the independent
variable and the second blank should be filled by the dependent variable:
The available variables in the statement are economic success, country and the people.

Caring about the publics’ political rights in a country causes economic success in a country
Higher Understanding of Political economics causes lower how public policy affects society
