What is the story all about?

A woman who was ill due to pneumonia and how she believes the ivy vine on the wall would lose all its
leaves.

The main character is Johnsy or Joanna who is an artist from California. Sue who is also an artist just like
Johnsy.

Where and when did the story take place?

The story happened in Greenwich Village.

Why did the particular event happen?

Because of a cancer Johnsy had.

Why did the character react in that way?

Johnsy thinks that as the last leaf falls, she will die.

Is there anything confusing or illogical about the story?

That Johnsy or Joanna is so eager to die and not be thinking of something positive.

Why did the character change/not change?

Johnsy change when she got her illness which is pneumonia and throughout it she isn’t the same before
she got her illness.

What was the motive of the action or reaction?

To give Johnsy some hope to even live. Behrman sacrifices his own life on order to save Johnsy.

How do you feel about the story?

I think the story is amazingly well written of how people you know gave their life so you could live.

Do you think the ending is plausible or logical?

It is logical because pneumonia is a cancer that could take people’s life and Behrman knows this risk but
didn’t care anyway and went on saving Johnsy.
