1. Differentiate between a website and a web portal.


A website is a collection of webpages which contain information on a given topic whereas a
web portal is a gateway to various internet services such as email, online shopping, search
engine etc.

2. Describe four features of www.


Four features of www are-
1. Availability of content- The information available on the internet is available 24*7
i.e. all the time.
2. Quick Search- The search engine helps to access the information easily and quickly.
3. Focus on shared interest- The www brings together people who share the same
interest with the help of blogs or social media platforms.
4. Universal Standard- The web uses common protocol HTTP to transfer the web
documents and HTML for writing the web content.
3. Briefly define the term Internet.
Internet is a network of networks where millions of computers are connected to each other
through various connecting devices like cables, Wi-Fi, Modem(Modulator-Demodulator) etc.
to share the data and information.

4. What is a web browser? Explain the different types of web browsers. Name any five
web browsers.
A web browser is a software which is used to view web sites. It is an interface between the
user and world wide web.
There are two types of browsers-
1. Graphical user interface – These browsers can display information in the form of text,
image, video etc. Examples- Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Mozilla Firefox,
Safari, Opera etc.
2. Text based – These browsers display the information in the form of text only. Eg-
Lynx.

5. Differentiate between the www and internet.


World Wide Web-
1. WWW is a set of programs which is used to access the webpages from the internet.
2. It is one of the service of the internet.
3. It is a part of the internet.
4. It is managed by Hypertext Transfer Protocol.
Internet-
1. The internet is a network of millions of computers connected to each other with
cables, Wi-Fi, modem etc.
2. It provides various services like email, online shopping, Chatting, File transfer etc.
3. It works independent of world wide web.
4. It is managed by Internet Protocol (IP).

6. Write any three rules one must keep in mind while deciding a domain name.
Rules for deciding the domain name are-
1. It can have alphabets and numbers.
2. Hyphen is the only special character allowed in the domain name.
3. A domain name can not contain more than 64 characters.
4. A domain name must have a valid domain extension.

7. How is hypertext different from hyperlink?


Hypertext can be text, image, audio, video, table which contains hyperlink in it.
Hyperlink allows a user to navigate from one web page to another webpage of the same
website or different website.

8. Describe the term Uniform Resource Locator.


Uniform Resource Locator is the address of a particular website. It is same as URI (Uniform
Resource Identifier)

Example- https://www.pragyanschool.com is the URL of Pragyan School.


In this URL pragyanschool.com is a domain name.

9. How does WWW work?
Ans- The www works on the client server technology. A client i.e. a web browser sends the
request to the server for a web page located on the web/internet. The server after receiving the
request process the request and responds back to the client.
10. Differentiate between a webpage and website.
Ans- A web page is a digital page which contains text, image, audio, video hyperlinks etc.
whereas a website is collection of webpages under the same domain.
11. Define IP address and Domain Name System.
Ans- IP address- It is the address of a website which consist of a unique set of numbers
provided by Internet Engineering Task Force. The range of IP address can be between 0 to 255.
It is a set of four numbers separated by dots/period.
For example- 198.1.20.200
Domain Name System- It is a system in which domain names are interpreted or converted into
their respective IP address because the internet works only with IP addresses. We use domain
name because domain names are easier to learn rather than learning numerical IP addresses of
different websites.
12. Write five domain extensions of countries.
Ans- Five domain extensions of countries-
.in- India
.us- United States
.au- Australia
.uk- United Kingdom
.fr- France
.jp- Japan
