A Body Image Litany

Lord, have mercy on us. - Lord, have mercy on us.
Christ, have mercy on us. - Christ, have mercy on us.
Lord, have mercy on us. - Lord, have mercy on us.
Christ hear us. - Christ hear us.
Christ, graciously hear us. - Christ, graciously hear us.

From the desire to change my body - Deliver me, Jesus.

From the need to compare myself - Deliver me, Jesus.
From the compulsion to restrict or binge - Deliver me, Jesus.
From societal standards of beauty - Deliver me, Jesus.
From self loathing - Deliver me, Jesus.
From scrutinizing of my body, which you created - Deliver me, Jesus.
From preoccupation with my outward appearance - Deliver me, Jesus.
From judgement toward the bodies of others - Deliver me, Jesus.

That I would see my body

as the work of your hands - Jesus, heal my heart.
That I would see my worth beyond numbers - Jesus, heal my heart.
That I would treat my body as Your temple - Jesus, heal my heart.
That I would embrace your design
for the Human Person - Jesus, heal my heart.
That all women and men would feel their beauty - Jesus, heal our hearts.
That I would see the connection
between body and soul - Jesus, heal my heart.
That, maintaining the virtue of humility,
I would come to love myself as I love others - Jesus, heal my heart.

Lamb of God, who takes away the sins of the world, - spare us, O Lord.
Lamb of God, who takes away the sins of the world, - graciously hear us, O Lord.
Lamb of God, who takes away the sins of the world, - have mercy on us.
Amen
