Activity 1
1. Differentiate Cataract to Glaucoma

A cataract is a change in the lens of the eye which the result is cloudiness as light is
prevented from entering the eye properly. Glaucoma is a condition where a buildup of
pressure in the eye causes damage to the optic nerve which is the vital link of the eye to
the brain which processes visual information.

2. List the nursing implication associated Retinal detachment

Instruct the patient to remain quiet in prescribed (dependent) position, to keep the
detached area of the retina in dependent position.
Patch both eyes.
Wash the patient's face with antibacterial solution.
Instruct the patient not to touch the eyes to avoid contamination.

Activity 2
1. List the nursing implication associated with Meniere’s disease

Inform the patient to lie down and not to move so as not to accumulate injuries or pain.
Place the patient in bed and raise the side rails for safety.
Give medicines as ordered to stop the vertigo.

2. List the nursing implication associated with Acute and Chronic Otitis media

Acute Otitis media

Pain scale measures the changes in the level of pain by different providers. Preverbal
infants vigorously pull or rub the affected ear, roll the head, and appear irritable.
A normal response to pain is an increase in respiratory rate, heart rate, and blood
pressure; fever may cause discomfort.
Promotes physical comfort and distraction for a child experiencing illness.
Movement of the eustachian tube, such as with chewing, may further aggravate the
pain.
Analgesic such as acetaminophen and ibuprofen alter response to pain.
Provides information about the effectiveness of the medication and prevents untoward
effects.

Chronic Otitis media

Chronic otitis media can be successfully managed by purposeful and aggressive medical
therapy. Frequent and meticulous debridement, topical treatment, and adjunctive
systemic antibiotics should be used. Medical treatment is appropriate either as a
curative measure, or for preoperative preparation of the ear.
