JOINT BOARD OF TEACHER EDUCATION FOR THE EASTERN CARIBBEAN

ASSOCIATE DEGREE IN EDUCATION

SAINT VINCENT AND THE GRENADINES COMMUNITY COLLEGE

DIVISION OF TEACHER EDUCATION

COURSE JBTE: EDCI

NAME: SHELLICIA HOPE

COLLEGE ID: 2107010

LECTURER: Mrs. Dopwell

DATE: 18th November 2022

1
Grade: 1 No. of students: 22

Theme: Weather Age: 6-7years

OVERVIEW: This unit's context will be finished in a Grade 1 classroom. There are 22 students in total in this classroom. The four primary curriculum areas will be taught in the classroom by a

single teacher. For several reasons, the classroom will be set up in rows and columns for this lesson. Inquiry-based learning will be facilitated in a semicircle. First off, this environment will be

utilized to support demonstration activities for the entire class. Second, this environment will make it simple for the teacher and pupils to interact, move around, and talk to one another.

Additionally, it is useful for dispersing materials. Four students might be comfortably housed in the center at once.

Description of unit: This integrated thematic unit plan is for students in grades 6 to 7 and is focused on the theme "Weather." The unit's goals, justification, focus questions, and the subtopics

that will be covered over the course of two weeks are all included. The four intended subtopics are based on the science, language arts, social studies, and math four basic content areas. The

activities and subtopics discuss ideas connected to the theme of "Weather." Additionally, the proposed subtopics incorporate the primary academic areas, children's reading, learning centers, and

particular creative art(s). To aid pupils in learning more efficiently, inquiry-based learning will also be included. Furthermore, all pupils, especially those with special needs, were taken into

consideration when designing the activities and evaluations.

Rationale: Weather conditions have a daily impact on the lives of children. Weather refers to the state of the atmosphere at a certain location during a brief period of time. Keep in consideration

the temperature, humidity, precipitation (type and amount), air pressure, wind, and cloud cover. As a result, this unit is aimed to teach Grade 1 students about different sorts of weather, as well as

different constructions and tools. It will likewise be built on the concept of weather, and will include elements from Language Arts, Science, and Mathematics. This unit has two-week duration.

Students should be able to define what weather is, recognize the numerous sorts of weathers, as well as the different instruments and structures. After completing this unit while integrating

language arts Science and Mathematics, students should be able to define what weather is, recognize the various types of weathers, as well as the various instruments and structures. The unit's

teaching tactics, such as experimental learning, demonstration, inquiry-based learning, and project-based instructions, will be utilized to emphasize the value of weather to grade 1 students.

2
Students will also participate in a variety of activities such as class discussions and small group exercises. This unit will use a range of assessment tools, such as worksheets and quizzes, to

determine the students' understanding of the material. The importance of "weather" and its inclusion in Grade 1 primary school science, as mandated by the Ministry of Education, further

reinforces its importance.

Unit objectives:

At the end of this unit students will be able:

1. Use prior knowledge to identify the different types of weather.

2. Understand the differ features that is unique to the different weather types.

3. Identify ways in which weather can be measured.

4. Describe the different weather conditions.

The pupils showed a desire to learn. The lesson went extremely well overall. I

addressed the pupils by name and made reference to details about them. We

had to speed through the other exercises because I spent so much time in the

lesson's arithmetic section. I believe my vocabulary was too limited. The

exact details on the application's back will be my first point of focus the

following time. I thought I spoke too much. The more reserved kids missed

out on the opportunity to practice speaking. I regret not including more

Teacher Evaluation
student-involved communicative activities. They would gain more of the

necessary practice that way. I took away from this experience the need to have

a more open teaching approach.. I must also keep in mind to delay the

explanations and get straight into the practice exercises. When the story was

being read, they worked better. More than ever, I understood the value of

flexibility. Even the finest lesson plans may require changes.
