Conditions and Program
prerequisites for: Basic knowledge in the disciplines: biology, anatomy, physiology,
histology, dental propaedeutics, dentistry, pediatrics.
Competences
basic digital (internet use, document processing, use of text editors,
electronic tables and presentation applications); communication skills
and teamwork.
Course mission The mission of the discipline consists in integrating the knowledge
accumulated by the future dentists in the specialized disciplines in
order to ensure an efficient, harmless dental care, respecting the
principles of preventive guidance in the specialty. The training of the
specialist in the discipline will contribute to the development of
students' skills and clinical thinking aimed at accumulating skills in
determining optimal methods of prophylaxis according to the
particularities of the growing organism to contribute to improving oral
health and improving the quality of life.
Presented thematic Risk factors in dental caries. Methods for caries risk assessment.
Evaluating the effectiveness of dental caries prevention measures.
The action of fluoride compounds on dental hard tissues. Local
application of fluoride preparations in order to prevent tooth decay.
Sealing dental cracks.
Risk factors in periodontal tissue damage. Prophylaxis of periodontal
disease. Indices of frequency and intensity of periodontal disease.
The role of food in the prevention of major oral diseases. The influence
of macro- and microelements on dental hard tissues.
Peculiarities of prevention of oral cavity diseases in children with
disabilities and special needs.
Ways and methods to achieve the WHO strategy in dentistry.
Indicators for assessing the state of oral health proposed by the WHO.
Oral health programs. Evaluating the effectiveness and experience of
implementing oral health programs in different countries.
Study finals At the end of studying the discipline the student will be able to:
• assess the risk of caries in children of different ages;
• to assess the nutritional risk factors in the occurrence of oral diseases
in the examined children;
• to appreciate the indications for the administration of fluorinated
preparations;
• topically apply fluorinated solutions or fluids;
• to apply topically fluorinated gels and varnishes;
• appreciate the indications for sealing dental cracks.
• to realize the non-invasive method of sealing the dental cracks;
• to achieve non-invasive sealing of dental cracks;
• to select oral hygiene remedies for children with periodontal diseases
or high risk of damage to the periodontal tissues;
• to indicate to select the oral hygiene remedies for children with
dento-alveolar anomalies and wearers of orthodontic appliances;
• to appreciate the behavioral type of children with disabilities and
special needs during dental treatments and preventive care.
