Hi William,
This is the most amazing trip I’ve ever been on. I feel so lucky to have the opportunity to visit Peru and
experience this. Today, we returned from a four-day journey up to the ancient city of Machu Picchu. At times, I
felt really sick, because the air is very thin at the top of the mountain and it is difficult to breathe. The guides
explained that it is because of the height and that most people need to stop many times during the journey to rest
and feel better.
Anyway, it was brilliant to see where the Incas lived over 500 years ago. Unfortunately, they didn’t have a
writing system, but archaeologists have learnt some things about them from the remains of the city. Most Incas
were farmers and they were the first people to grow potatoes. We saw a llama (a strange-looking animal) and I
learnt that the Incas used them to farm the land. They were also interested in art and music and they made
jewellery from gold and silver.
This has been an experience of a lifetime, and I’ve got lots of photos to show you. I will be back in England
next week.
GOOD LUCK!
