Exercise 1.
For the following polynomial functions, find the Maclaurin series (ALL your calculations must
be visible):

1) 𝑓(𝑥) = 8𝑥 5 + 3𝑥 4 − 5𝑥 3 − 𝑥 + 1;
2) 𝑓(𝑥) = −15𝑥 4 + 7𝑥 3 − 4𝑥 2 − 8𝑥 + 3;
3) 𝑓(𝑥) = 6𝑥 6 + 5𝑥 5 + 4𝑥 4 + 3𝑥 3 − 2𝑥 2 + 𝑥 − 1;
4) 𝑓(𝑥) = 18𝑥 5 − 16𝑥 4 − 13𝑥 3 − 𝑥 2 + 8;

Exercise 2.
For the following polynomial functions, find the Taylor series (ALL your calculations must be
visible):

1) 𝑓(𝑥) = 3𝑥 3 + 2𝑥 2 + 𝑥 + 4, taking 𝑥0 as the point of expansion;


2) 𝑓(𝑥) = 2𝑥 4 + 𝑥 3 − 𝑥 2 + 𝑥 − 1, taking 𝑥0 as the point of expansion;
3) 𝑓(𝑥) = 15𝑥 2 − 𝑥 + 10, taking 𝑥0 = 7 as the point of expansion;
4) 𝑓(𝑥) = −4𝑥 4 − 2𝑥 2 − 2, taking 𝑥0 as the point of expansion;
5) 𝑓(𝑥) = 5𝑥 2 + 3𝑥 + 6, taking 𝑥0 = 6 as the point of expansion;
6) 𝑓(𝑥) = 7𝑥 4 + 3𝑥 2 − 2𝑥 + 10, taking 𝑥0 as the point of expansion;
7) 𝑓(𝑥) = 100𝑥 2 − 4𝑥 + 8, taking 𝑥0 = 2 as the point of expansion;
8) 𝑓(𝑥) = −0.25𝑥 2 + 0.5𝑥 + 1, taking 𝑥0 = 5 as the point of expansion;
9) 𝑓(𝑥) = 25𝑥 2 + 𝑥 − 100, taking 𝑥0 = 1 as the point of expansion.

Exercise 3.
Find the first five terms of the Maclaurin series (choose 𝑛 = 4 and let 𝑥0 = 0) and the first five
terms of the Taylor series (choose 𝑛 = 4 and let 𝑥0 = −2):
