Introduction:
The main goal of this experiment is to find out the temperature, pH, and concentration of
the substrate. Enzymes are proteins and they act as catalysts within living cells. Enzymes
play an important role in the chemical reactions involved in cellular and extracellular
processes. Active sites may change and form after bonding their substrates to help
catalyze the reaction. As temperature increases, the enzyme’s regulation starts to
increase, until something comes to disrupt the enzyme’s forces, and it begins to decrease
which is not good. Enzymes have an absolute pH at which they function.pH in an enzyme
is the environment that the enzyme is made for. When uttermost conditions of a pH or
temperature occur, it will make the protein become deprived, and then it won't be able to
function anymore. When a protein is deprived it begins to lose its shape.
“The procedure for this lab has been described in the lab manual.(Page 2).In
experiment 1, the goal was to determine how substrate concentration affect enzyme
controlled conditions. The pH had to be set to 7 there were 5 sheets of paper each of
them had about 1% of starch on it so each paper were dragged and added to the test
tubes.A timer was set while the tubes were shaking and than it gave the number of
the product of molecules that was formed per minute.
In experiment 2, the goal of this lab was to determine how pH affect enzyme-
controlled conditions. The pH was reset and had to be adjusted to a pH test of
3,5,7,9,11.This time the paper containing 4.0 g substrate was dragged into each
tubes,A timer was set after 1 minute it showed the product molecules formed
during the first minute in each of the test tubes.
pH
Section IV.Discussion:The amount of substrate added for the tube made the results
different in experiment 2 by turning it into pH of 7 and adding only one gram to it
which was 4.0 surprisingly the colors were the same as experiment 1 but the results
looked a little bit different than lab 1 it made the results look more negative which
made the graph look more different and unable to tell that much.
