Description:

The first picture shows a typical sample of epithelial cells isolated using the staining
technique used on serous effusions (pleural fluids). From what is visible on the example,
nuclei of the eukaryotic epithelial cells are uniformly shaped and sized, cells are arranged
into discrete tissues and cytoplasmic volume is relatively large. Blue and red blood cells
are present. All the mentioned features indicate that the magnified picture from the
microscope represents cells of a healthy individual, with no cytological pathologies.

For this type of cytological examination of biological samples, diagnostic cytology is use
to view the present pathology of cells that might indicate the mutation caused by various
diseases. This can be seen when comparing the first example of healthy cells to the
following example, the cell pathology is visible. What is more, this method is important
to identify the cancer affected cells and provide a treatment to the patient as soon as
the issue was diagnosed.
