Everyday there are approximately more than 385,000 babies born. Out of 1,000 babies
born, 1 will be born with unilateral hearing loss. But what exactly is Unilateral hearing
loss? Well a unilateral hearing loss occurs when hearing in one ear is within normal
limits, while hearing. Unilateral hearing loss can range from mild to profound in severity.
You can have unilateral hearing loss from birth, or hearing loss can develop later in life,
with single hearing different from normal people? No. Even though single hearing
people may have more difficulty than an average person. For example, people with
single hearing may have symptoms like ringing in one ear, Asking others to repeat
themselves, noting that it is more difficult to understand conversations, favoring one ear
over the other, and much more. Just because they have these symptoms does not
mean they cannot do everything a normal healthy person can. In fact, they can do stuff
an normal individual would do, like bike hiking, running, etc. They adapt to the world
around them, and do stuff like any individual would do. They are not any different than
the average human being. But sometimes a individual would think of them differently.
For example, an individual would think they would have trouble with running, or hiking,
but this is not the case. Single hearing people do not have anything different from the
normal person than hearing. But do keep in mind that a normal hearing individual can

lose one of their hearing any day. This could happen due to excessive sound in
someone’s ear, or it can just come naturally. But why am I explaining this? Well as a
member of the community of single hearing, I wanna express my opinion, that everyone
can get def in one ear from one time or another. Symptoms may include balance
problems, dizziness, chronic ringing in ears, severe earache, and of course sudden
deafnesss. For example, Aaron B from the website Coclear. He is a normal person who
lost his hearing overnight. He was 37 years old when this happened, and just overnight
he lost his hearing. That night he lost his hearing and his happiness. He explained he
couldn't identify who was talking, or where the sound was coming from. This was very
difficult for Aron since he was used to hearing with two ears and not just with one. He
explains that it made him more irritable, more frustrated, and even made him draw back
on the people that were the closest to him. He did not realize how much he used both
of his hearings until he lost it. He expressed himself that even though he could only hear
in one, he could still do any of the things a normal hearing individual could. He could
still go out to the wild, or spend time with the people he loved. However, later on Aron
bought Baha five superpower. This is a hearing aid who helped Aaron hear once again.
Thanks to the hearing aid, he continued his life like he used to. Another example is
Debra from Tampa, Florida and from the same website as Aron Coclear. She was
diagnosed with cholesteatoma, a tumor which is invasive and destructive. She lost her
hearing in her right ear, and this caused to missed a lot of the conversations she was in.
It was difficult for her to hear. But this did not make her less than a normal person. She
still did what she loved to do even after losing her hearing in her right ear. She still went
on walks, bikes, etc. This did not make her less than anyone, and she kept doing the

same things she would do when she could hear with both ears. However, thanks to the
Bahara system , a hearing aid. Debra got to hear again with both ears. She explained
she will never forget her experience and that it did not make her any less than a normal
individual. In conclusion, this community of single hearing is not different like many
audiences would think. They are among us, and they do everything we do.
