Straighiness, flatness and paralelisin tolerances. 37 Non-conformity 4 Foreword European Standard has been prepared by Technical Committee CEN/TC 421 Welding’ the Secretariat of which is held by DS, in collaboration with Technical Committee ISO/TS 44 “Welding and ald processes’. ‘This European Standard shall be given the status of a national standard, either by publication of an identical text or by endorsement, and conficting national standards withdrawn, by February 1907 at the latest. In accordance with the CEN/CENELEC intemal Regulations, the national standards organizations of the folowing counties ae bound to implement this European Standard: Austria, Belgium, Denmetk, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, iceland, ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherianss, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzoriand, and the United Kingdom. 1 Scope ‘This European Standard specifies general tolerances for linear and angular dimensions anc for shape and position ot welded structures in four tolerance classes, these being based on customary workshop accuracy. The main erite- rion for the selection of ¢ particular tolerance class should be the functional requirements wnich are to be met. ‘The spplicaale tolerances are always those which are stated In tha Grawing. Instead of specifying InaWicual toe ecances, the tolerance classes according {0 this standard may b0 used. General tolerances for linear and angular dimensions and for shape and position ae epdcitied in thi standard apply for welcments, welding assemblies and welded structures ete. Special provisions may be necessary for complex siruce tures, ‘The spaciiications given in this standard are based on the principle of independency as specitied in |S0 8016, ao: cording to whicn the dimensional and geometrical toler- ances apply independenty of each other. Manutacturng documentation in which linear end angular ‘dimensions or indications for shape end position are pre~ ‘sonted without individually indicated tolerances shall be ‘deemed incompieie If there Is no, or inadequate, reference to general tolerances, This does not apply to temporary dimensions. 2 Normative references Ts European Standard incorpraos, by dated or undated fence, provisions from othe: publications. These nor mative relerences are cited ai the appropriate place in the: text and the publications are listed hereatter, For dated references, subsequent amencments 10 or revisions of any of these publications apply to this European Standard only \whon incorporated in it by amondiment or revicion. Straightness, flatness and parallelism tolerances ‘The straightness, flatness and parallelism tolorances ao specified In the table 3 apply both for the overall dimen sions of a weldment, a melding assembly, or a welded Siruotura, and also for sections for which the dimensions are indicated, Cotnor tolerances of form and position (0.9. coaxiaty ana Synmatry tolerances) hava not bean spacified. If such tol- erances are required for functional reasons, they shall be indicated on the crawinge, ae specified in prEN ISO 1101. 5. G2 Straightness ‘The edge of the weldment and the straightedge shall be algned in such a way that the greatost distance between the straightedge and the actual surface s at I's minimum, 63 Flatness The actual surface of the wekiment and the measuring plane hall be aligned to each other in auch @ way that the (greatest distance batvieen th measunng pian and the actual surface is at its minimum. This may be affected, for ‘example, with the aid of opticel devices, tubular water lov- is, span wires, floor plates, curtaco plates, and machine beds. The distances between the actual surface and the measur- ing plane shal be measured (for example, see figure 7) 8.4 Parallelism ‘The reference surface shall be aligned parallel to the refer ence plane. |A meaeuring plane shall be established paraliel to the ret- ‘rence plane and apar from the wekiment, using tre meas- turing devices referred to In 6.3. The distances Detween the actual surface and the measuring plane shall be measured (example see figure 8). 7 Non-conformity | cecision on the acceptance of components not comply= ing with this standard may be made on the basis of the suttabiity for heir intendes purpose. gg, Straightedge Edge of weldme Figure ¢: Straightness test ye a plano ‘Measuring plano Figure latnoce tost etait X Measuring plane ‘Actual surface Figure 8: Parallelism test Page 5 ENISO 13920: 1986 SS Fax ~ fin St Ihqan ~ Fin St Reference surface Roferonce plane
