DISCUSSION 6 23-11-2022

Flange Leakage check

Flange Leakage occurs due to Axial force and Bending moment only.
Flange leakage check can be done by various methods, in this discussion we are
going to check by Equivalent pressure method.

Peq- Pressure Equivalent Method

In actual practice, any piping system has Internal Pressure & as well as Thermal
loads
Peq, we convert Thermal Loads into pressure and then compare with PT rating of given
Flange.

Peq = 16*M/(3.14*G^3)+ 4*Fa/(3.14*G^2)

here-
G- Diameter at location of gasket load reaction
M- Bending Moment from pipe
Fa- Axial Force From pipe

Ptotal = P+Peq.........P = design internal pressure

After that compare this result with ASME B . 16.5 As per PT rating and given
Temparature.

P total < Allowable ASME B 16.5
