Simon Boudvin – Motivi

ROMA Publications 2022 ISBN 9789464460292 Acqn 32892

Pb 25x33cm 200pp col ills £31

'Motivi' is a collection of graphic compositions by artist Simon Boudvin, who created this during
his residency at Villa Medici in Rome between 2020-2021. Drawing inspiration from famed Italian
architectural and design magazines, Boudvin collected noteworthy pages from issues published
in the 1980s. He then enlarged them by 400% to create 192 close-ups of seemingly random
shapes and patterns. These reproduced fragments present a chapter in the history of Italian
design, creating a background of the time.

James Beckett - The Sceptical Structures of Max
ROMA Publications 2022 ISBN 9789464460285 Acqn 32952
Pb 14x27cm 120pp col ills £19.25

The chipboard lies at the heart of James Beckett's installation and book, 'The Sceptical Structures
of Max.' Invented by industry magnate Max Himmelheber (1904-2000) in the spirit of frugality and
economy, the chipboard accounts for 80% of material in globally-produced furniture now. Using
chipboard salvaged from the streets of Amsterdam, the artist explores the relationship between
industrial production and human behaviour. This book includes excerpts of Himmelheber's
writings from his quarterly journal 'Scheidewege' on unusual topics such as boy scouting,
Shintoism, and environmentalism, as well as a conversation between Dirk van Weelden and the
Zimbabwean-born artist.
