USERS INSTRUCTIONS FOR MOUNTING THE SNOW BLOWER
After the initial set-up assembly is completed, and with the transfer case rotated on its side, use the following
procedure to mount the Erskine™ Snow Blower to the Tractor for user operation.

1. Align and drive the tractor forward over the

push frame.

2. Drive the tractor forward until the long

tapered pin on the tractor mount plate is
almost contacting the Qwik-A-Tach bracket.

3. Apply the park brake. Shut down the

engine and connect the hoses for the
hydraulic lift cylinders to the remote
couplers.

8
USERS INSTRUCTIONS FOR MOUNTING THE SNOW BLOWER_____

4. Start the engine; use the remote hydraulic

control lever to raise the blower lift arm until
all free travel in the lift linkage is removed
(rigid). Shut down the engine and install the
lock pin for the lift linkage.

NOTE: This will allow hydraulic down pressure

to be applied on the blower to lift the push frame
for Qwik-A-Tach alignment.

5. Start the engine, use the remote hydraulic

control to raise the frame and align the long
tapered pin on the tractor mount plate to the
Qwik-A-Tach. Drive the tractor forward so
the long pin engages the hole in the Qwik-A-
Tach a small amount.

NOTE: In the event that the blower is not sitting

level, one lift pin is longer to allow the operator to
align the long pin and drive the tractor forward
until the pin engages the hole a small amount.
Then raise or lower the frame to align the short
pin and drive forward until both pins are fully
engaged to complete the hook-up.

6. Shut down the engine. Apply the park brake.

Use the jack to raise the transfer case and
frame in position under the drawbar.

9
USERS INSTRUCTIONS FOR MOUNTING THE SNOW BLOWER

7. Install the drawbar coupler and retaining

pins.

8. Secure the drawbar coupler retaining pins

with spring clips

9. Rotate the transfer case upright. Install and

tighten the (2) 3/4” NC bolts to secure the
transfer case.

IMPORTANT: These bolts must be tight to

prevent damage in the event the transfer case
is hung-up or should strike a solid object.

10
USERS INSTRUCTIONS FOR MOUNTING THE SNOW BLOWER____

10. Connect the PTO driveline. Be sure the

retaining pin snaps into position on the PTO
shaft.

WARNING: Be sure the PTO

master shield is secured in its
operating position.

IMPORTANT: Maximum rear driveline

extension is 3 inches (76 mm). Extending
beyond 3 inches (76 mm) will allow driveline
separation and damage will occur.

11. Connect chute rotator hoses to the couplers.

12. Completed rear mounting connection shown

with screw jack in horizontal storage position.

NOTE: Screw jack may be removed if desired.

11
USERS INSTRUCTIONS FOR MOUNTING THE SNOW BLOWER

13. Raise the blower enough to release

pressure on the locking pin and remove it
from the lift linkage to allow snow blower
free float. Install and secure the pin in the
storage hole provided.

14. Mounting is now complete and you are

ready to blow snow.

Use the reverse order of the above to

dismount the snow blower from the tractor.

WARNING: Read the operating

and safety instructions in this
manual before using the snow
blower.

12
OPERATING THE SNOW BLOWER______________

WARNING: DO NOT operate from any position except seated in the operator’s seat
with the seat belt fastened. DO NOT permit riders.

1. Before starting the tractor, to control snow

discharge angle and distance, adjust the
discharge chute deflector to the desired
angle. To adjust; remove the lock pin, slide
the adjusting strap up or down to the desired
deflector angle and reinstall the strap lock pin
and retainer clip.

NOTE: Blower will obtain the best casting

distance in the up most position.

2. Skid shoes are used to control the minimum

desired cutting depth. If necessary to adjust
the skid shoes, raise and block the snow
blower. Remove the two skid shoe retaining
bolts and adjust the shoes up or down
equally to the desired cutting depth. Reinstall
and tighten the retaining bolts.

WARNING: To prevent personal

injury, never work on a raised
implement without using
additional support blocking or
jack stands.

3. Check to be sure all tractor-operating controls

are in the neutral position and start the
engine.

CAUTION: Be sure all bystanders

are clear of the equipment before
starting. Keep bystanders at
least 10 feet (3m) away when in
operation. Thrown objects and
ice can cause serious injury.

4. With engine idling, check the hydraulic

remote functions for the discharge chute
rotator and blower lift cylinders. Rotate the
chute toward a clear area.

13
OPERATING THE SNOW BLOWER_______________

5. Lower the snow blower to rest on the skid

shoes.

6. Engage the tractor PTO system (see tractor

operating manual)

IMPORTANT: To prevent the possibility to

damage, always idle the engine when engaging
or disengaging the PTO.

CAUTION: Be careful if using

imported tractor. Some have multi-
speed PTO systems. The PTO
speed must NEVER exceed 540 rpm.

7. Select the lowest tractor forward gear and

operate the engine at full throttle. Start the
tractor moving forward into the snow. Blow
the snow toward a clear area. When possible
direct snow discharge downwind.

NOTE: Tractor forward speed can be varied

according to tractor power, snow depth and
density. Always operate at full throttle for
maximum snow blower efficiency.

CAUTION: Know your work area.

Avoid obstructions and/or other
debris.

NOTE: If surface to be cleaned is very dense or

compacted snow, the blower should be resting
on the skid shoes during operation with the lift
cylinders completely retracted. This puts the
blower in the “float” position. If operating in soft
snow conditions, the blower can be carried
slightly above the ground with the lift cylinders to
prevent gouging.

WARNING: Disengage PTO shaft,

lower blower to rest on skid shoes,
stop engine, set the parking brake
and wait for all motion to stop
before leaving the operators seat for
any reason.

14
ROUTINE SNOW BLOWER MAINTENANCE ________
It is the operator’s responsibility to make daily inspections of the blower and tractor for damage, loose bolts, fluid leaks, or
anything else that could cause a potential service or safety problem. Preventive maintenance is the easiest and least
expensive type of maintenance.

IMPORTANT: Bolts and set screws can loosen after initial usage. After first hour of operation check
all bolts and set screws.

WARNING: Lower the Erskine™ Snow Blower to rest on the skid shoes, shut down the
engine, wait for all motion to stop, and set park brake before leaving the operator’s seat to
perform service of any kind.

casting of the tractor. If necessary, use an equal
number of spacer washers at all four bolt
locations between the support plate and the front
of the tractor to compensate for any curvature in
the front, extended front grille, or other
interference. Tighten the mounting bolts
securely.

NOTE: If necessary, the support plate can be

turned over to allow different lift pin vertical
locations due to varying tractor ground
clearances.

24
SET UP ASSEMBLY
INSTALLING THE BLOWER SUPPORT PLATE (continued)

The blower support plate is normally predrilled at

the factory. If a universal type support plate is
supplied, the plate must be centered and drilled to
match the hole pattern of the tractor front casting.

Install a 7/8” tapered lift pin (1 short, 1 long) and ½”

thick bushing into one of the holes on each end of
the support plate.

NOTE: The ½” thick bushing can be installed on

either side of the plate to allow for adjustment of the
lift pins. The long lift pin can be installed on the LH
or RH end of the plate depending on user
preference.

PUSH FRAME ASSEMBLY

IMPORTANT: Before starting this procedure,

make sure the area that the assembly will occur
is dry, flat, and level. This will ensure proper
frame installation.

1. Attach the front of the two push arms (no

grease zerks) to the blower head with 1” x 6-
1/2” NC bolts and lock nuts (1” x 5” NC bolts
for the 901FM). Attach the rear of the push
arms to the two-position bracket in the lower
holes with the two 3/4" x 2” bolts and locknuts
(5/8” x 1-1/2” bolts on the 901FM).

NOTE: On the 901FM ONLY when installing on

a very high ground clearance tractor, the upper
hole position may be used to level out the blower.

2. Connect the right blower push arm to the front

push frame using a 1” x 6” NC bolt and lock
nut. Connect the left push arm with a 1” x 4-
1/4” pin and secure pin with a 5/16” x 2” bolt
and locknut.

3. Install the lift linkage using 1” x 3” bolts and

locknuts (3/4” x 2-1/2” bolts on the 901FM).

4. Install the blower lift cylinder into the frame

system. Connect the rod end of the cylinder to the
lift arm. Install the 90° elbow fittings in the cylinder
ports and the restrictor fitting in the anchor end
elbow.

NOTE: Cylinder ports should be facing up to allow

clearance for fittings and hoses.

NOTE: Tighten the lock nuts on the bolts only

enough to remove all endplay in the bolts. The
cylinders must be allowed to pivot.

5. Temporarily clamp a straight edge vertically on

the tractor front blower support plate as shown.
Use a tape rule to measure and record the distance
from the front support plate to the end of the tractor
PTO shaft. To this distance add 30 inches.

NOTE: This measurement will give the

approximate push frame preliminary setting from
the blower front frame adjustable bracket to the
transfer case.

6. Slide the rear frame into the front frame. Use

blocking to level the frames. Install (8) 5/8” x 4” NC
bolts and backing plates. Do not tighten the nuts
until the final frame length adjustment is made.

hanger.

14. Use a jack under the front frame to raise the

frame 6 to 12 inches from the ground to level the
frame, but still allowing clearance for the front
axle of the tractor

IMPORTANT: Allow for clearance between the

driveline and front axle when the snow blower is
in the fully raised position.

15. Hang the adjustable front frame brackets on

the support plate lift pins and drive the tractor
forward until the adjustable brackets contact the
front frame.

16. Align the adjustable bracket holes to the front

frame holes and fasten together with four 1” x 3”
bolts.

NOTE: If additional adjustment is needed, the 1-

1/8” lift pins may be relocated in the other support
plate holes.

IMPORTANT: If necessary, cut off the lower

unused part of the adjustable brackets to prevent
the push arms from striking the brackets when
raising the blower.

30
SET UP ASSEMBLY
PUSH FRAME ASSEMBLY (continued)

17. If it is necessary to move the blower forward on

the tractor to allow clearance for an extended grille,
large front tires, or other interference, install the
frame extension with the two flat braces and four 1”
x 2” and four 1” x 2-1/2” bolts.

NOTE: the frame extension is not standard

equipment and therefore may not be included with
your snow blower. If it is needed, notify your
Erskine Attachments LLC dealer and it will be
provided at no extra charge.

18. After installation of the front frame adjustable

brackets is completed, be sure the support plate lift
arms fully engage the hole at the top of the
brackets.

NOTE: When final frame adjustments are made,

there should be a 1/4” gap between the bracket
bushing and pin flange. This will allow the system
to be pushed from the drawbar rather than the front
of the tractor.

19. Attach the hitch bracket and coupler to the

drawbar as shown.

31
SET UP ASSEMBLY______________________
PUSH FRAME ASSEMBLY (continued)

20. Use the screw jack to raise the transfer case

and frame as high as possible under the
drawbar support hanger. If needed, add shim
spacers between the hitch bracket and frame
rails to provide necessary frame clearance.

NOTE: 2” x 6” spacers of various thicknesses

are supplied for this purpose.

21. Connect the hitch bracket to the frame rails

with 5/8” x 8” bolts and backing plates.
Locate the backing plate with driveline rest on
the left side. Leave bolts loose for final frame
adjustment.

NOTE: After all hitch bracket adjustments are

completed, cut off excess of bolts.

22. Lower the screw jack. Rotate the transfer

case to upright position and secure with
original bolts. Do not tighten the bolts.

32
SET UP ASSEMBLY
PUSH FRAME ASSEMBLY (continued)

23. Install the rear PTO drive shaft (23-1/2”

collapsed length) on the upper shaft of the
transfer case. Use a 3/8” x 2” key, 5/16” x 3”
bolt. Tighten the bolt and nut securely.

24. Slide the frames in or out so that the rear PTO

drive shaft, fully collapsed, will have just enough
clearance to be put on the end of the tractor PTO
shaft.

CAUTION: The maximum allowable

rear PTO drive shaft extension is 3
inches. Extending beyond 3 inches
will allow drive shaft separation and
damage will occur.

25. When you are satisfied that all frame length

adjustments are correct, tighten all frame and
drawbar hitch bracket clamping bolts.

IMPORTANT: Tighten nuts to 140 lb-ft minimum.

NOTE: Be sure there is 1/4 inch clearance

between the front frame adjustable bracket bushing
and lift pin flange as described in step 18.

33

26. Remove the bolts and rotate the transfer case

on its side and put the PTO shaft in the rest
bracket. Install the main hydraulic hoses (not
supplied) through the left side hose support
tubes and connect to the lift cylinder fittings.
Secure with wire ties where needed.

NOTE: A cylinder restrictor must be used to slow

down the blower lift speed or damage may occur.

27. Install quick coupler male ends and connect

to the remote couplers. Secure the hoses to
the left rear frame rail with a nylon tie strap as
shown.

NOTE: When figuring hose length, allow

additional length for the frame system to be
resting on the ground when the hoses are
connected to the tractor quick couplers. See
Users Mounting Instructions.

28. Start the engine and use the hydraulics to

raise and lower the blower. Adjust to give
approximately 2” of free travel in the lift
linkage with the blower resting on the skid
shoes.

34
SET UP ASSEMBLY______________________
PUSH FRAME ASSEMBLY (continued)

29. At this time the tractor can be removed from

the blower to make it easier to complete the
assembly of drive components.

30. Remove the tractor from the blower by

hydraulically raising the lift arm so the locking
pin can be inserted. Hydraulically put some
down pressure on the blower to hold the
frame up when removing tractor. Use the
screw jack to support the rear frame,
disconnect the drawbar hitch coupler,
disconnect the coupler hoses, and lower the
frame to the ground. Remove the screw jack
and carefully back the tractor from the blower.

31. Install the front driveline on the auger gearbox

splined shaft. Secure with two 5/8” x 3” grade
5 bolts and lock nuts. Tighten the bolts and
set screw securely.

32. Slide three pillow block bearings and locking

collars on the long center drive shaft and lay
in the frame. With the front pillow block
bearing in operating position, the shaft should
protrude through the bearing 2 to 4 inches
when the rear of the shaft is within 1/4” of the
transfer case coupler sprocket. If shaft is too
long, mark the shaft to cut off on chain
coupler end (extended keyway end). Remove
the shaft and cut.

35
SET UP ASSEMBLY
PUSH FRAME ASSEMBLY (continued)

33. Install a chain coupler sprocket with a 3/8” x 2”

key on the extended keyway end of the main
shaft. Install the sprocket even with the end of
the shaft and tighten the clamping bolt and
keyway set screw.

34. Position the shaft back into the frame. Connect

the transfer case chain couplers together with a
double No. 60 roller chain and connector link.

NOTE: Two connecting links are used in the center

of the chain.

35. Use 1/2” x 2-1/2” bolts to secure the pillow

blocks in position. Measure and center the
main shaft between the frame rails and tighten
the front pillow block mounting bolts. Tighten
the rear pillow block mounting 1/2" x 2” bolts
next. Tighten securely.

NOTE: The locking collar should be positioned on

the rear side of the front pillow block bearing.

36
SET UP ASSEMBLY______________________
PUSH FRAME ASSEMBLY (continued)

36. Install the center pillow block bearing mount

bracket with (2) 1/2 inch u-bolts. Center the
bracket fore and aft between the front and
rear pillow block bearings and use (2) 1/2” x
2-1/2” bolts and nuts to secure the pillow
block bearing to the bracket.

IMPORTANT: The center pillow block bearing

must be properly aligned with the front and rear
pillow block bearings so that the shaft is running
perfectly straight. If necessary, loosen the frame
adjustment bracket clamping bolts and raise the
center of the frame up until the bearing mount
bracket contacts the pillow block and then tighten
the frame adjustment bracket bolts.

37. Tighten all pillow block bearing locking collars

and set screws.

IMPORTANT: Tighten the locking collars in the

direction of shaft rotation (clockwise). Install the
bearing grease fittings.

38. Install a 3/8” x 2” key in the shaft and connect

the front driveline to the main shaft using a
5/16” x 3” bolt and nut. Tighten the keyway
set screw.

NOTE: On the model 901FM only, use a 5/16” x

3” bolt.

37
SET UP ASSEMBLY
Cylinder and Hose Installation

39. Install the chute rotator hydraulic hoses (not

supplied). Make sure that the restrictor is kept
in the hydraulic orbit motor.

NOTE: The chute rotator hoses should be 3 to 4

feet longer than the lift cylinder hoses.

40. Route the hoses along the outside of the front

frame and through the hose support tubes on
the left side to the rear of frames. Secure the
hoses to the frame with nylon tie straps
wherever necessary.

41. Rotate the transfer case upright. Install PTO

driveline shield to transfer case using the two
front cover bolts.

42. If required, optional chute deflector cylinder or

electric actuator may be installed at this time.

43. Remove the linkage strap that sets the chute

deflector angle and replace with a standard 2 x
8 ag cylinder or electric actuator (optional
package).

NOTE: Install hydraulic hoses or wire harness

allowing plenty of length for the chute to rotate fully
in both directions.

38
SET UP ASSEMBLY_____________________
PUSH FRAME ASSEMBLY (continued)

44. Rotate the transfer case horizontally. Drive

the tractor onto the snow blower and mount as
outlined in the Users Mounting Instructions

When the snow blower is completely attached,

carefully raise the blower to the full up position
and check the front drive line to axle clearance.

IMPORTANT: When raising the blower, be sure

the driveline can telescope without any
interference.

45. After all adjustments are correct, locate the

pre-drilled hole in the front frame rail clamping
plate. Use a 1/2” drill bit to drill through the hole
into the first sidewall of the rear frame rail. Do
this on both sides.

NOTE: The backing plates have pre-drilled holes

to allow lock bolt installation.

46. As a final step, install a 1/2” x 4” bolt into the

hole on each side and tighten securely with a lock
nut.

IMPORTANT: Instruct user to check and tighten

all frame and hitch bracket clamping bolts after
the first hour of operation.
