Assessment Center

1. INTRODUCTION
Congratulations on your invitation to the VIKING Assessment Center! Your application has made a very good
impression and you are now taking the next step in the hiring process. This is a great opportunity for you to get
a better overview of our company and clarify any questions you may have. It is also a chance for us to learn
more about you and whether you’re the right fit for VIKING.

a. What is the Assessment Center?

As the final stage of the interview process, the Assessment Center is where candidates are assembled for a
personal interview and an objective assessment of their skill sets. Candidates will participate in simulation
scenarios that will display their level of experience, which in turn give the recruiter better insight into their
abilities.

b. VIKING
VIKING offers river, ocean, and expedition cruises. The global corporate headquarters is located in the United
States while the main operational headquarters is in Basel, Switzerland. Established in 1997, the company has
expanded to over 70 river vessels so far and introduced its first ocean liner in April 2015 with now 7 ships in
operation.

c. Our Employees
As we continue to grow, we seek focused, innovative and motivated individuals who share our vision. Being
invited to the Assessment Center shows that you have impressed us with your background and skill set and we
are now interested in getting to know you further.

2. GETTING READY FOR THE ASSESSMENT CENTER

Please take the time to fully prepare yourself for your in-person assessment.

a. Research Beforehand
An important part of interview preparation is to take the time to analyze the position you have applied for.
Even though you may not know what to expect at the interview, you can make the best impression by being
aware of what can be expected.

 Research the skill requirements and qualifications

 Review your own skills and knowledge
 Make a list of your strengths and weaknesses
 Think about what motivated you to apply
 Prepare any questions you may have for the interviewer
 Prepare necessary documents (e.g., forms of identification, travel documents, copy of your passport,
etc.)

b. Useful Tips
If this is your first time attending the Assessment Center, don’t be intimidated. Even though an in-person
interview can be stressful, with the right preparation, you can arrive feeling relaxed and confident.

Page 1
 Ask a friend or family member to run through a mock interview. Although it does not reflect the
actual interview, you can practice your technique and how to react to unexpected questions.
 Practice role playing. At the Assessment Center, you may be asked to participate in a customer
service exercise where you will play the part of the employee and the Recruiter will take the role as
the customer. Practicing role playing questions with a friend or family member beforehand will
better prepare you to think on your feet.

c. Dress Code
Although we do not have definite guidelines, every interview is considered a business appointment. Dress
professionally, but comfortably. If you taking part in a skills test, such as test cooking, please bring appropriate
clothing and the tools needed to perform your tasks.

d. Be Punctual
Being on time is one of the most important factors. Please allow yourself enough travel time to get to the
Assessment Center. Aim to arrive 15 minutes early.

3. WELCOME TO THE ASSESSMENT CENTER

Candidates are invited to either the morning session or the afternoon session. We have a strict schedule to
follow in order to ensure that all participating candidates will have their in-person interview. Since we can only
provide you with a time frame for your interview and not a definite time, please schedule yourself sufficient
time for this day. Refreshments will be provided in the waiting area while you wait for your in-person
interview. Please check in with the representative at the venue when you leave the waiting area.
Selective positions will undergo two-stage interview streams. Your agency will advise you if it will apply to you.
