Livestock and Rearing.

Extension services are being provided by an increasing number of qualified veterinary officers. The
government has also introduced a number of breeding station facilities to improve the quality of
livestock. The establishment of [Livestock breeding] program has been a great success.

One of the major constraints to a thriving industry is high incidence of diseases such as nagana,East
Coast fever, foot and mouth disease and other tick and [Water]born diseases. The government of [1] is
continuing its efforts to combat these disease pests through the construction of cattle dip, the
establishment of veterinary health centers and clearing of bush which harbours tsetse flies and tick.

Sheep and goat are established at 7-8 million heads in the country and they make an important
contribution to [Kenya] livestock industry. The most abundant variety of sheep is the local type which is
mainly used for producing meat products but there is also significant number of reared for the
production of wool pig and poultry breeding is also an important sector of the livestock industry
in[1]and there is a small but conspicuous number of horses. Camels are the major means of livelihood
and transport in the arid [Provinces].

The livestock industry in [Kenya] is not that the country can be proud of although there is still a lot of
room for improvement especially in the quantity and quality of beef and other products. [1] Produces
more than enough milk and dairy products.
