Opening:

SAMPLE WRITING:

Hi Jack,

It’s been ages since the last time we met. I’m so happy that you’re coming to my country
with your friends. You guys will be very welcome here.

When it comes to my hometown, Ha Long bay is the first thing that comes into people’s
mind. You can have a wonderful time enjoying the beautiful beaches and taking many
stunning photos. In terms of transportation, you may want to hire bikes because public
transport isn’t very good here and cycling around the city would be more fascinating.

There’s a museum displaying the history of the city but it’s quite tedious. I strongly
recommend visiting some art galleries here which have the national reputation for its
uniqueness. Besides, there is a couple of big-name universities here that may keep you
interested.

I’m really sorry that I won’t be able to join you because I have to attend English classes
every day as my exam is coming soon. A friend of mine, who is a tour guide, will take you
to the best places in this area so there’s no need to worry.

SAMPLE WRITING
Dear Ms. Roddick,
I am writing to apply for your drama summer course which I saw advertised on the internet.
I am twenty years old and I am studying acting at university. I would love to attend this
course because I am very good at acting and I am very keen to improve my skills. To be
honest, I have always dreamed of becoming a world class actor and I believe I have what it
takes to do so.
I have been passionate about acting ever since I was 5 years old. I have a wide range of
experience in acting in many plays at school. I am very confident and creative when acting
and writing plays. Although I never had an opportunity to study acting before, I won a
national drama contest in 2010. For that result, Art Magazine named me “one of the top 5
most potential actors of the decade” and featured me on the cover of the magazine in
September 2010.
I would be available every morning and afternoon from Monday to Friday. At the moment,
I am attending an English class at weekends, but I would be free the rest of the week.
