Habitat for humanity restore is a branch of the organization that focuses on supplying

low-priced furniture, and home improvement equipment to the community. The Macomb county

branch offered a variety of low-cost supplies to residents of the community looking to build or

furnish a living environment. Helping others locate the right supplies to make up their home was

a rewarding experience that allowed me to interact with a diverse group of individuals in the

community.

The warehouse store primarily operated as a storage space for surplus supplies, but also

provided affordable supplies to the community to gather revenue to support the main branch.

Throughout the duration of the volunteer shift, I was tasked with unloading the surplus supply

truck, organizing supplies in the warehouse, accepting donations and helping customers load

supplies into their vehicles.

The work was in sharp contrast to the daily tasks of a medical dosimetrist. This offered a

well appreciated change of pace. The work was physical similar to other warehouse occupations,

however there was also a retail element in helping customers find what they needed and offering

assistance in transporting purchased goods. The work gave me a new appreciation of other

professions.

Overall the opportunity to interact with a diverse group of people, while helping my

community was a very rewarding experience. Additionally, learning about the purpose of Habitat

for Humanity Restore will allow me to assist friends and family in the future if the need ever

arises for them to furnish a new home. The organization is a great asset to the community while
also allowing volunteers to enrich their lives with a diverse and unique workload that offers great

insight into the world of home design. The lessons learned from this experience will not only

translate into my profesional career but also other facets of my life as well. The website used to
