Critique Paper about ‘Dangerous Trump’

The editorial/news article, Dangerous Trump, was posted in the renowned

Philippine Inquirer website on the 9th of August, 2016. This editorial talks about

how the United States Presidential Candidate, Donald J. Trump branded the

Philippines as a ‘Terrorist Nation’ in his campaign rally last Thursday, August 4,

2016 at the Merrill Auditorium in Portland, Maine.

During the rally, Trump said immigrants from “terrorist nations” should not be

allowed entry into the United States of America because they would not be vetted by

the government beforehand. He named several other countries “terrorist

nations” because he thinks they are plotting to wreak havoc on United States soil.

The other countries which Trump had mentioned are mostly from Muslim or

Islamic majority countries like Afghanistan, Iraq, Morocco, Pakistan, Somalia,

Syria, Uzbekistan, and Yemen. He is a very dangerous person and if he wins the

Presidential election, he might barr Muslim, Islamic or other foreigners who want

to immigrate in the United States. He might even deport those people. The

Philippines is not taking this matter lightly since Donald Trump is generalizing that

the major Muslim or Islamic countries are full of terrorist groups or terrorists and

I think the other countries that were mentioned are not taking it lightly either. It

is implying that Trump is RACIST. Trump focused most of his speech on the

dangers of immigrations and implied it in an inimical way. He should not be a

presidential candidate in my opinion because he is too reckless, racist and he has

also shown troubling extremes of misogyny, xenophobia, prejudice, narcissism,

hair-trigger impulses, and a brazen penchant for lying as stated in the article. He is

probably one of the worst presidential candidates or nominees from the United

States in my opinion for not

thinking before he spoke, for being irrational and for being racist. In my opinion,

as an electorate, one should be able to mean what he or she says but bearing in

mind that it does not offend the majority of the people or anyone for that matter

because their votes will matter. One should also be able to be tactful with

sensitive topics. As a presidential candidate, you should never antagonize other

countries to whom you have connections, partnerships and strong bonds with,

because they will become a helping hand when the country is in jeopardy. Now,

with his recklessness of words, he might even or might have lost most of his

Filipino-American supporters.

In another news article titled the Philippines Talks of Barring Donald Trump

for Calling It a ‘Terrorist Nation’ in the renowned New York Times website was

posted on the 12th of August, 2016 by esteemed journalist J.R. Alibutud, it stated

that one of the lawmakers of the Philippines, Congressman Salceda, is filing for a

resolution on barring Trump to enter in to Philippine soil. Mr. Salceda is barring

him for the “wholesale labeling of Filipinos as coming from a ‘terrorist’ state.” Mr.

Salceda condemned Mr. Trump’s “ugliness of utterances, largely unprompted and

undeserved,” even though Mr. Trump profited handsomely from licensing his

name and brand to a real estate development in the Philippines. Trump also

stated that “He was dealing with animals.” Which he is referring to as the terrorist

nations.

In my point of view, Trump is unfit for the job. Also, he does not deserve to

win the elections because his values are actually bigoted, he is not intelligent

enough, he is far too impulsive and his use of words are reckless in an inimical

way. For the good of the country, they should not chooses someone who is very

close-minded and reckless. You can't really say Trump is a good candidate

because you

really don't know where he stands on anything. Donald Trump can say whatever

he wants because he doesn't have to back it up. Trump is a potential threat to his

nation for being ill-minded, impolite, racist and etc and he might even start the

World War 3. Also, the author of the editorial about Dangerous Trump, is trying to

inform others that now is an urgent time for Filipino-Americans or from Filipino

descent, a famously fractious lot, to unite and collectively add their voice to the

many across the United States and the global community who refuse to accept

Trump’s hateful, bone-headed rhetoric. Stay silent, and they may very well help

elect this dangerous man into office. I am not biased against him but the

evidences that I am writing here are in fact true that he is a ‘Dangerous Person’.

Also, in the editorial from Dangerous Trump, it also stated that according to a

2010 survey, some 3.4 million Filipinos, or Americans of Filipino descent, comprise the

second-largest self-reported Asian ancestry group (after Chinese-Americans) in the US

population. Would those Filipino-Americans who lean Republican and have

embraced Trump now realize the folly of hitching their wagon to an unstable

candidate whose misinformed, intolerant policies on immigration and world

affairs threaten their security and wellbeing? This candidate also threatens the

security and wellbeing of their home country and fellow immigrants, documented

or not, whose remittances make up the bulk of the $25 billion sent yearly to their

families in the Philippines.

This article is very relevant. The author’s purpose is to inform us that if Trump

wins the elections, he may cause chaos in everything that he will do to the Unites

States of America. I do not think the author is too biased against Trump. He is just

giving us factual information on what kind of person Trump is and what the

dangers

are of him if he becomes president of the United States. The article is well-

constructed in my opinion and it is a source of good information for us readers.

But, I think it lacks information on how the Filipinos reactions to Trump’s speech. I

do not think that there are logical fallacies in this article. The argument is very

strong because of where the sources I got them from were from outstanding

news websites. This article or editorial is authoritative and readers would enjoy

reading this. The rhetorical strategies that were employed in this article are

definition, description and argumentation. I would probably suggest this article to

the readers especially the readers who are interest in politics.
