Walgreens Boots Alliance, (WBA). Inc. is a pharmacy, healthcare and retail organization

headquartered in Deerfield, Illinois.

Alliance and Walgreens Boots joined in 2014 to form what is currently known as Walgreens

Boots Alliance.

History of Walgreens

Sr. Charles Rudolph Walgreen purchased the drug store where he worked in the Chicago,

Illinois, in 1901, establishing the framework for what would become Walgreen Company in

1909.

It all began in 1999, with the launch of Walgreens.

Walgreens took the decision to acquire the drugstore chain Duane Reade in 2010. Walgreens

purchased Drugstore.com and Beauty.com in 2011. In 2006, the Boots Group and Alliance

UniChem joined to form what is today known as Alliance Boots.

 In 1849, John Boot established a shop selling herbal remedies under the Boots name on

Goose Gate in Nottingham, UK.

 Boots originally released its No7 cosmetics brand in 1935.

In 1997, Alliance UniChem was formed by combining Alliance Santé and UniChem. Uni

Chem was established in 1938 in United Kingdom with the goal of offering pharmaceutical

wholesale services to small, independently operated pharmacies. Alleanza Italia (previously

Alleanza Farmaceutica, found in 1977 by the Stefano Pessina) combined in 1991 with French

pharmaceutical wholesalers IFP and ERPI to become Alliance Santé.

S.A.F.A is the Spanish pharmaceutical distributor, was found in 1919 and was bought by

Alliance UniChem in 1998.

In the year 2000, Alliance UniChem acquired the Dutch pharmaceutical wholesaler Interpharm.

Interpharm has been in operation since 1896.

In 2007, Alliance Boots' wholesale branch was renamed Alliance Healthcare.

In 2010, Alliance Boots bought a majority share in the German pharmaceutical wholesaler.

Walgreens and Alliance Boots announced a strategic alliance with AmerisourceBergen in

2013 to improve medication acquisition and distribution. In 2018, Alibaba built a flagship shop

for Boots on Tmall Global (Alibaba's B2C) platform for merchants and international brands,

with the assistance of Walgreens Boots Alliance. This enabled Chinese customers to purchase

Boots' well-known cosmetics range via Alibaba's numerous online marketplaces.

United States of America regional coverage

When combined, Duane Reade and Walgreens form one of the biggest drugstore chains

in the United States, contributing to the country's commercial sector. This deal also includes

AllianceRx Walgreens Prime, a specialty and home delivery pharmacy, and a majority share in

iA, a producer of software-enabled and pharmacy automation systems.

The International section includes Boots in the United Kingdom, Thailand, The Republic

of Ireland, as well as Benavides in Mexico, Boots Opticians, Ahumada in Chile, and

pharmaceutical wholesaler of WBA activity in Germany. It also comprises Boots franchisees

operating in the Middle East and Indonesia.
