DEBATE!

During a speech given at his own trial in 1964, former

president of South Africa Nelson Mandela said that “There
are two ways to break out of poverty. The first is by formal
education…”

• Why is education a way to break out of poverty?

• Is education alone able to make someone emerge from poverty?
• Is it possible for an uneducated person to do that?
• What kind of education is Mandela talking about?
• Can you guess what the second way to break out of poverty is?
