Thank you very much for taking the time and considering me for this Art Teacher position, it is
an exciting opportunity which I hope to prove myself a good candidate for. I have been a Graphic
Designer, Art Director, and Production Artist working in the Art and Design industry since 2015 up
until the present. In the last several years however, I have also invested a lot of time and energy into
pursuing a career in education, and now am finishing the single subject credential program in Art at
Cal State Long Beach, and substitute teaching in Long Beach Unified School District. Learning about
teaching, studying pedagogy, and forming my own education philosophy has shown me how
fulfilling it is to teach any content at all, but in teaching Art and Design, I would also get to impart my
real-world experiences and help students find their way to professional success while getting to be
creative in their own ways. I am prepared to create units of study based on whatever the curriculum
calls for, and I will attach one of my units as a sample to show the structure I use. In my lessons, I put a
lot of my focus on students’ individual metacognitive growth, doing what I can to help them become
independent learners. To make sure I can reach each student, I do my best to learn about their
various cultures and personal identities, and respond in ways that they feel naturally engaged with. I
am also more than willing to collaborate with my fellow educators and make sure the students are
getting as complete and successful an education as possible in the time we are with them. I very
much hope to get the chance to introduce myself, and learn more about your community and what I
could bring to it.
