When I started researching the homeless population in San Diego, I did not realize the magnitude of

homelessness. An article "Streets of Despair" written in February is what sparked my interest and
curiosity. I was saddened to discover that the homeless population is growing in every city and the death
toll is rising due to drugs and addiction.
But government is trying to help them. They are providing more shelters, using huge empty buildings and
sometimes even streets that allow tents and temporary shelter for nighttime and winter months to get them
out of the cold.
A recent opening of a homeless shelter in Pittsburgh filled up immediately and council is looking for
more areas to renovate for the homeless. This shows there is a great need and demand for us to help our
homeless.
