PLANT ENGINEERING DESIGN

MODULE 4.2
SAMPLE CALCULATION
The power customer has four feeder circuits of 220V, 3phase, the feeders
have maximum demand as follows

Circuit no.1 = 35A

Circuit no.2 = 46A
Circuit no.3 = 72A
Circuit no.4 = 57A

If the diversity factor is 1.5 determine the maximum KVA demand of the
customer
Given : SOLUTION:

div. F = 1.5
Max. Demand
= 35A, 46A, 72A and
57A
KVAmax = 53.347KVA
FORMULA:
An industrial plant has an aggregate load of 100KW. The
demand factor is 60%. If the average total energy
consumption of the plant in one year is 186MW-hr, what is
the yearly load factor of the plant?
GIVEN: SOLUTION:

CL = 100KW PL = DF x CL
DF = 60% PL = 0.6 (100KW)
AL/TEP = 186MWhr PL = 60KW

FORMULA:

LF = 35%
Two turbo generator in the central station are rated 600KW.
The average power load is 250KW and the maximum
demand is 1000KW. Calculate the plant factor and load factor
of the station
GIVEN: SOLUTION:

MD = 1000KW
AL = 250KW
IC = 2 x 600KW = 1200KW

FORMULA:
The monthly reading of an consumer meter are as follows:

Maximum Demand: 60KW

Energy Consumed : 24,000KW-hr
Reactive Energy: 15,600KVAR-hr

Determine the load power factor and load factor

GIVEN: SOLUTION:
MD = 60KW
AL = 24,000KWhr
RE = 15,600KVARhr
