To Whom It May Concern,

I have been asked to write this letter by Gabrielle Haugen who was a student in my clinical group
and the lecture course for Mental Health Nursing in the spring of 2022. I understand that she is
applying for an RN position in your facility.
Ms. Haugen was an involved and diligent student in my clinical lab. She attended all sessions
and completed all assignments. She had a respectful presence with patients and worked
effectively with her peers. Flexibility is important in all healthcare settings, but especially in the
psychiatric setting where patient behaviors are often unpredictable and require fast responses.
Ms. Haugen exhibited a stable and calm presence with a concern for safety for patients and staff.
The comprehensive assignment in our Mental Health Nursing course is an analysis of a
conversation with a patient. Verbal and nonverbal behaviors of the patient are discussed and an
in-depth reflection on the student’s ability to respond therapeutically is included. Ms. Haugen’s
strength in this assignment lay in her self-awareness and how it impacted her patient. When her
responses needed improvement or enhancing, she generated workable alternatives.
Ms. Haugen has demonstrated her commitment to healthcare. We at the University of Arizona
College of Nursing are proud of her. Please feel free to contact me should you need further
information. Thank you for considering this excellent applicant.
Respectfully,
Terri J. Farmer PhD, PMHNP-BC
Associate Clinical Professor
