DEBATE

1. They Can Be Expensive for Parents. Parents and guardians may spend more money on
school uniform maintenance than on regular clothing. Uniforms are frequently exclusively
offered by a small number of providers, and prices are kept high by the lack of competition (and
captive market). Or, a uniform can call for more expensive accessories like blazers and dress
shoes, which some families might find difficult to purchase. For example, there are schools that
can be found in mountain or rural areas. Mostly of the citizen there are farmers and they are
not gaining enough money or salary to sustain uniforms especially when they have a lot of
children who goes to school. This can really be a big burden for them and can also be the
reason that pushes the students to stop or drop out from school.
2. Forced wearing of uniforms have bad effects in women. Some skirts are too short which
gives them a hard time to move. When they are using stairs to go up, there is a possibility that
the people below or under them will see their underwears or shorts. Here in our school,
majority of the girls are wearing above the knees skirts and we can see how they suffer from it.
3. Your Academic Performance is not also affected whether you are wearing a uniform or not.
A University of Otago researcher claims that uniforms should be completely redone. According
to Dr. Johanna Reidy of Otago's Department of Public Health, girls are required to wear
uniforms which prevents them from exercising during recess or riding bicycles to school. Her
work was a review of existing research to see if uniforms had an impact on education and
health. She expected to find that uniforms led to better academic outcomes, but actually found
there is “no direct link”.
“Studies in France for example where they wear non-uniform clothing to school, and then
comparing students that wear uniform, there is no major difference. “All students achieve
based on their learning skills, not uniform status.” She added.
4. Lastly, Vice President Sara Duterte, who also serves as Education Secretary in a concurrent
capacity, said that school uniforms will not be required for School Year 2022 to 2023. She
issued the directive in a bid to avoid additional expenses for families of students. So it is
acceptable that students should not be requirred to wear uniforms.
As long as your clothes follow proper dresscode.
