DEFINITION/SUMMARY OF THE ISSUE

On September 7, 2016, the Office of the Student Affairs

called for the annual meeting and orientation of scholars – whether
Iskolar ng Bataan, CHED scholar, ESGP-PA, and Academic or extra-
curricular scholars. But, when Dr. Perla B. Estrella, Director, Student
Affairs and Services, gave her opening remarks, she was truly
saddened by such situations saying “ huwag ninyo kaming hayaan
mag-process ng maling information.”. Indeed, she was directly
pertaining to the students who fabricate their grade.
PARTS & CONTENTS

DEFINITION/SUMMARY OF THE ISSUE

As a scholar, the every semester’s report of grades is a major

requirement for our scholarship or grant plus the maintaining average
of 2.5 for the Iskolar ng Bataan. If you are a student who earnestly and
diligently studied on all your subjects, having an average of 2.5 is such
an easy catch. But in reality some students were not that into their
studies that they need to do something with their grades to keep the
title of being a scholar. And I am talking about the students who uses
Photoshop, InDesign and other editing softwares to make everything
possible or to be precise, students who falsify their grade.
PARTS & CONTENTS

DEFINITION/SUMMARY OF THE ISSUE

Caught up in a critical situation like this and doing the “kapit sa

patalim” is gradually becoming a usual norm here in Bataan
Peninsula State University (BPSU). Changing is not always for the
better as changing your grades equate to a bigger problem.
Weighing up the situation, it would be practical enough to alter your
grade to secure your future. It would me more pleasing for you to do
that forbidden deed and pretend that nothing happened at all.

THESIS STATEMENT

However, changing is not always for the better

as changing your grades are highly unacceptable in
any angle.

A. Topic Sentence

C. Relation Part
Example: Fact Thesis Statement

Banning of Mass Gatherings must be strictly implemented

across the country. According to Resolution No. 13 of Bataan IATF,
it states that “considering the high probability of virus transmission
among the attendees in mass gatherings, it is necessary to enforce
Evidence

stricter measures by temporarily prohibiting mass gatherings to

mitigate the spread of COVID-19” Therefore, since the
government is doing all its power to suppress the virus, we as
the citizens, should also do our best to ensure that we follow all
the mandates they have made in order to protect us. Relation Part
Example: Opinion Thesis Statement

The Manila Bay beautification should not be prioritized

in the midst of pandemic. In my opinion, the money spent on
this project should have been used to much more important

things instead. It can be allocated to improve the healthcare

facilities and compensate the medical frontliners well. Hence,
we can establish a strong safeguard to address the growing
number of COVID-19 cases in the country. Relation Part

1ST ARGUMENT
Topic Sentence
First, the mere act of changing your grade into your desired figures is
qualified as a grave misconduct subject to ground for disciplinary actions.
Supporting Evidence

According to the Part 7 Conduct and Discipline Chapter 3, Section 30, of the
BPSU Student Handbook, “Erasing, substituting or altering by any means of
the figures, letters, words or signatures, making untruthful statements in a
narration of facts shall be subjected to general provisions." Therefore,
changing even a single detail on your Report of Grades is considered as
falsifying of public documents. Anyone who found guilty shall face the
sanction based on the provision of the student handbook. Unfortunately, the
stakes are higher for this misconduct, as the first offense directly equates to
a suspension for 1 semester. The second and the last offense is an automatic
exclusion from the university. Relation Part

2ND ARGUMENT
Topic Sentence
Second, fabricating your grades to avail the scholarship that you badly
need, does not only destroy your personal reputation but also the
university’s image to companies, organizations and private individuals who
sponsor the grant. Imagine if all the Peninsulares will do the same thing each
Supporting Evidence

and everytime they fail to achieve the maintaining grades, then these people
will most likely to mistrust their financial support to BPSU students that will
lead to finding another beneficiary institution. Moreover, adverse incidence
like this can reflect on what kind of students that BPSU has. Hence, negative
connotation to our own university means bad publicity. Bad publicity can
spell a huge disgrace to our province’s lone state university on a national
scale.

3RD ARGUMENT
Topic Sentence
Lastly, faking or altering our grades eludes the essence of scholar.
The concept was drawn into two personas: A true and a false scholar. A
true scholar works hard from dusk until dawn and does not settle

himself into futile and conventional works, while a false scholar studies
whenever he feels or when the situation badly calls for it and is
bounded by the saying “bahala na” and “pwede na”. A true scholar lives
his title fervently everyday while a false scholar only became a scholar
during validation of grades and enrolment. A true scholar can be cited
according to the way he think, speak and act, while a false scholar only
identifies himself through his mouth.

SIMPLIFIED THESIS STATEMENT

PARTS & CONTENTS
SUGGESTION/RESOULUTION TO THE ISSUE

The title of being a scholar entails a lot of demanding responsibility.

Let us all be accountable with our words and deeds, for this will lead
us either to achievement or frustration. The task may seem hard and
intimidating to characterize but it will always be possible and
definitely worth it. Let us prove to the nation that we are deserving
for every centavo that they are spending on us. Because in the end,
nothing is much sweeter than the label of being a scholar put before
us on a clean and dignified way.
