CLASSIFY AS IDENTIFY TREATMENT
 Give the child a dose of vitamin A
Severe Malnutrition
 Refer URGENTLY to hospital
 Give Deworming and oral antibiotics for 5
days
 Supplements of vitamins and minerals are often
advised
 BMI is regularly monitored to check for
improvement
 Assess the child’s feeding and counsel the
Malnutrition

 Follow up in 7 days if the child has feeding
problem
 If a child has pallor, give more iron
 Follow-up in 14 days
 Advise mother when to return immediately
 Follow up in 30 days if no feeding problem
