1. In your opinion, why do people think that a person with higher IQ is automatically a
successful language learner? Elaborate your answer.
ANSWER:
I think using IQ as a method to predict success or failure among adults as they learn a
language learner is like using weather conditions to predict the success of a chiffon cake
baking well. The temperature outside has nothing to do with the baking process in the
oven, although relative humidity can predict how well a particular flour mixes and
interacts with other ingredients. In short, any reliable measurement of a person's IQ will
include so much that has little or nothing to do with language learning that it renders IQ
very useless in predicting success in a language learner. In addition, there are many other,
less easily quantifiable variables that will make a difference in learning another language:
the student's level of motivation, the amount of time spent studying the language and
between learning sessions, the "closeness" between the student and the teacher, the social
atmosphere among classmates. , etc. It is not wrong if you want to know in advance how
likely a student's success will be. It would be wrong to rely solely on IQ to predict that
possibility.
2. How does social and economic background relate to second language acquisition?
Elaborate your answer.
ANSWER:
Relationship between social context and L2 skills. social context affects L2 skills
indirectly, mediated by a number of variables. The attitudes of students towards L2 and
the learning opportunities that can be obtained by students are determined by their socio-
economic class are two important variables. Relationship between social factors and
target language choice of learners.Characterization of the different social contexts in
which acquisitions occur and the effects of these types of contexts on learning.

An individual's social class is a composite determined by income, education level and

occupation. It is usually divided into four groups: the lower class, the working class, the
lower middle class, and the upper middle class.
There is a relationship between social class and L2 achievement. Most studies show that
children from lower socioeconomic groups are less successful in L2 learning than
children from higher groups. It must be remembered that it is not socioeconomic class
that produces this effect, but rather the world experience that different social classes are
likely to have.
For example, if there are students who have a high social class and those who do not have
a high social class will get different learning about a second language and in fact with a
high social class a second language has become a common thing that must be mastered
apart from the mother tongue is different from other people. with low social class, most
will only learn their mother tongue because there is no motivation in their social
environment to learn a second language

3. Anxiety can determine whether a person can learn a second language easily. What should
teacher do to reduce anxiety if in a speaking class, a student makes mistakes?

ANSWER:
Student anxiety caused by the students themselves and the lecturers who teach the
Speaking course. That cause come from themselves, namely: students fear of mistakes,
their fear of being laughed at or ridiculed by other students, less capable students,
unprepared students, poor students practice, students lack vocabulary, students lack
confidence, students lack confidence, lack of student motivation, student shyness, and
students don't like the subject speaks. Causes that come from outside, namely: the
teacher's teaching methods, and the attitude and behavior of the lecturer who spoke.

Teachers should do to reduce anxiety when speaking in class, teachers should try to keep
students motivation high so that their anxiety is low.Even if it is difficult to change
learners laguage talent, teachers can provide positive experiences, which will lead to
higher motivation and lower anxiety.

For example, teachers can praise students achievements and give them positive feedback
