First of all, choose what kind of 

story you want to tell. Is it going to 
be a romance? A horror tale? A 
comedy piece?  

2. Now, let’s think about the 

characters in it. How many will there 
be? Are they going to have names? If 
yes, what are their names? Think of 
the details, gender, profession, 
personality… Anything that can be 
relevant to your story. Write it down. 

3. When is the story set? Is it going to 

be relevant to know? Is it set in the 
present, the past or the future? Is it 
going to happen all in one day or over 
the course of a few days, maybe some 
decades? 

4. Where is the story set? Is it going to 

be relevant to know? Is it in a house, 
in a big city, on the beach? Will there 
be a lot of different locations or only 
one? 

5. Finally, what’s going to be the main 

conflict? Will it have a solution or will 
it remain as a mystery for the reader 
to think of it? Describe it in as many 
details as you can. 

6. Do you have any idea for a title? 

(don’t worry, you can change it 
afterwards).
